The past few days here in frozen Massachusetts (in bed with the flu, ACK!) have proven to be the perfect time to think about our recent Florida vacation. What can I say, I guess it's a yin and yang thing...balance old dirty frozen snow and the flu and a house that needs cleaning or will soon be mistaken for a bus station bathroom with thoughts of the best-vacation-ever in a warm and sunny place with the one I love. So, now that the fever is gone and I'm a bit more coherent, here's a trip report to match up with the picture report I already posted. Maybe by the time I'm done writing, I'll be able to breathe through my nose again (ahhhhhhh...)

DBF, LP, LOmL, GGG, AC... OK, I will back up---the run-on list of acronyms would be the darling boyfriend, life partner, love of my life, generally great guy, and amazing cyclist, Keith. Also known as Sockboy or Sparky.
Prequel, or the idea forms:
Some brief but integral background to our happy tale. After many years of being best friends, life twists and turns and DBF and I find ourselves blissfully together living as a couple. Fast forward to December, and Christmas with DBF's family. His charismatic Aunt and Uncle, who just happen to live in Florida, and have worked with the House of Blues for years, arrive for Christmas Eve giant celebration. Several times they ask DBF when he/we will finally come down to Florida for a visit. The idea of vacation together passes in and through my mind a lot like the smell of coffee early in the morning when you're not totally awake. It's there, and it's great but you have to stumble around in the kitchen a while to get to it. OK. Terrible analogy completed, trip report continues. Several times DBF and I begin to talk about the idea of vacation with each other, which goes something like this. "Wow. We could go to Florida. Together." "Wow." "Wow..." "Wow." Well, you get the idea here.
Fast forward a few more days. During Christmas days off, I am surfing the web, and decide to check www.flecktones.com for upcoming tour dates. The Flecktones are one of the most amazing things to ever happen to live music, by the way, (this coming from the classical clarinetist who is rather burned out on music of any kind at the moment) and DBF and I have had the pleasure of going to several concerts together. So, what do I immediately see but a concert date on Feb. 12 at the House of Blues. In Orlando. Whoa. Breathe. Take. In. Air. I stumble into the kitchen where the DBF is making eggs. "Wouldn't it be amazing to see the Flecktones, in FLORIDA?" "Where it's warm?!??" (Mind you. It has not been above freezing here since...who knows. August 5th or so?) Warm. Florida. "Wow." "Wow." "Wow." Clearly, again, you get the idea. Then, I realize...no...this is too good to be true. Now, I'm not that great at math, but Feb. 12 is...roughly 2 days before Valentine's Day. This would be truly incredible. A trip to Florida, to visit DBF's Aunt and Uncle, see our favorite band in concert, and maybe even celebrate Valentine's Day in, oh, say...where's that little place again, with the rides, the mouse... DISNEY WORLD! DBF and I proceed to grin a lot for several days, more of the "Wow. That would be great's" are exchanged, when finally we realize the most amazing thing: we can do this. Why just talk about this? Life is short. Go to Disney World.
Fast forward to several days later, plane tickets have been purchased, calls to Aunt Karen and Uncle Kevin have been made, I've got a prescription for some high-test tranquilizers (more on that, later.), and after a few more "Wows!" we have made reservations to stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Fast forward just once more through somewhere between 5,000 and 625,000,000 inches of snow, and a few weeks of work spent mostly dreaming about our vacation, and we are running around Target like giddy toddlers on sugar, packing for Florida, and our first ever vacation together.
