Has anyone else gotten one of these....I have Sprint PCS and yesterday I got a text message from itzvk55kh@netzero.net that says "Want a supermodel figure? Lose 3 sizes without exercising! Call 800-xxx...". How are these spammers getting our numbers?

I got one too. The exact same one as a matter of fact. My phone is activated through my company, so our Sprint Rep says he is looking into it. If he comes back with anything, I will let you know.

These messages are sent the same way as telemarketer calls to your home. The message is set up, a computer is programmed to dial every telephone number with the NPA NXX of the wireless carrier. When it hits a valid number, the message is sent. It is spam, plain and simple. I remember getting voice mail spam from a mortgage company in AZ, then the same company got in trouble with the AG for text spam.

Luckily, I did not get that....
Unfortunatly, I forgot to finish paying last months bill and Sprint decided to text me at THREE AM!!!! to tell me they would be turning off my phone. That's right....THREE IN THE MORNING!!!
I wanted to kill them, as I had been up studying for a midterm till 2:15, and finally fell asleep closer to 2:30....

Sign your cell phone up the www.donotcall.gov registry. Then, if they do it again, they can be fine $10,000 per call.

I don't think text messages are covered by the Do Not Call registry...not sure. The new word for this is SPIM (bc they use IM technology to do it). Very aggravating.

They don't "get" your number. They just program their computers to blast this out to every iteration of the number that it can come up with, just like the spammers do with email.

This hasn't happened to me yet. Man, what a bummer. I get charged for every text coming and going to my phone. I won't be a happy camper if this starts. Thanks for the heads up.

OMG!! I just had this happen on Tuesday! I was on the cell with my DBF (I have Sprint PCS, too) and I got a beep telling me that I had a text message/voice mail. I asked my DBF if he had left me a voicemail and he said no. I started freaking out, wondering who called me...not many people have my cell or only call it if it is an emergency, and I hung up with my DBF. I was soooo mad when I found out that it was a dumb spam text message!! I hope I don't keep getting these things. If anyone finds out how to stop them, let me know! Thanks.

It hasn't happened to me yet, but one of my coworkers got a spam message yesterday. I can't remember what the spam message was, but I know she was pretty ticked off about having to pay for the text message.
