I get plenty of junk e-mail daily, but rarely check my spam folder. Yesterday I did so.

Yikes!!

I won a Stanley Cup from Starbucks!!

My McAfee anti-virus software (which I don’t have) will be terminated unless I click on a link.

Final Notice!!! My order from unspecified company will be returned to sender. Act now to avoid additional fees.

A secret Asian s-x cult ritual can increase my short (frankfurter) into a foot long.

(Some of the things in my spam folder also slip into my normal inbox, like Camp Lejuene compensation, credit card offers, liposuction deals, etc.)

Those all get through my spam filter. It only filters out legitimate e-mails. One friend in particular, about one of every four e-mails goes into the spam filter no matter how many times I mark it as "not spam". He is a retired IT guy and I wonder if he uses some strange software that triggers this. He is odd in that after years of working with all kinds of hardware and software, he does NOT have a camera on his computer, he does NOT ever go to any social media sites, and he doesn't have a cell phone.

I have a google email probably have not checked in couple years. No telling what I have won

Uggghhhhhh……..it’s terrible for me too :headache:

My SPAM folder gets a lot and my inbox gets some, that I then send to the SPAM folder. If I had a dollar for every email I get saying I spent a huge amount of money with Geek Squad, I’d have enough money for a car payment every once in awhile - it’s crazy and annoying!

I have used the same email for almost 30 years.

I guess I get a lot of SPAM but not much of it makes it through the Google filters.

Not sure what unexpected emails I have missed as I never check the folder because I never miss an email I am expecting.

The spam that worries me the most are the ones where they say they secretly video taped me and demand a ransom otherwise threaten to send the video to my SO.

I don't know why when I read that I thought it meant this:

I was like, "That's awesome! I want a Stanley Cup that I can fill up at Starbucks!" 🤣

Is there another reason for Stanley Cup to be capitalized? Surely those mugs aren't THAT good.

Also, I have the spam sketch running through my head. And I have a craving for some spam egg spam spam bacon and spam.

I can't remember the last time I checked my spam folder. I don't get a lot in my regular email so google must be doing it's job. Now that I think about it, when I signed up for SS they told me if I didn't hear from them to check my spam folder because their email was going there. Guess I'll go check it now.

In case your post was serious----It's spam, don't let it worry you, they haven't secretly taped you. Don't send the ransom money!!!

Besides the link to click, some of those spam e-mails also have a message to click a different link if you no longer want to receive their mail. Don’t do it. Just ignore and/or delete the message.

Generally I consider an email spam if it comes from a 'gmail' address instead of the actual company. Real companies tend to have their own extension. If it from something I have NEVER had........like telling me my NETFLIX subscription has expired, I just delete it. Same with texts on my phone. I have NEVER gotten a legit text from Amazon/FedEx/etc..............I don't think any of them ever communicate that way. I also just delete those without ever opening the message.

When I first began internetting back in the days of AOL 6.0, I created a throwaway email over at Hotmail for use in signing up to forums and message boards and other places where you absolutely have to put in an email address. It works like a charm and collects all of the junk when these places inevitably sell my info. My real email address is clean as a whistle except for family, friends, and a few trusted companies.

This goes beyond spam. This falls into the criminal realm of email scams. It would probably be classified as phishing and should be reported (if supported by your email provider) and fully deleted from your account. Hopefully, you can see it in a preview pane without formally opening the email.

Hadn't checked my spam folder in ages and this email prompted me to do so. Found a family email from last week, which I was happy to read and hundreds of requests from politicians, and very little 'other' spam. I also had some emails from businesses and restaurants I frequent directed there. Guess I'll have to start watching it more closely. Oh yeah - the family email - the person sent it from their work 'official' email. I guess they didn't believe she is who she is, lol.

i think there are some new scamming/virus emails being sent out disguised as class-action lawsuits notifications. i've gotten several in recent weeks and have NOT clicked on the links b/c when i go online and google to see if anything comes up about a class-action lawsuit under the specific companies nothing comes up (and they are common big name companies so if there was a lawsuit something would pop up).
