Spaceship Earth Will Close for Weeklong Refurbishment

Spaceship Earth is scheduled to be closing for a week-long refurbishment in August. The closure begins on August 18, and runs through until August 25, reopening on August 26 2013.

Excellent. It will be nice and spruced-up for my visit this fall!

All they need to do if remove the Judi Dench narration tape and put the Jeremy Irons one back in.

I enjoy that ride a lot so do the kids. I thought Walter Kronkite did the original voice for that, but I'm most Likely wrong! Lol! Can't wait to see it all done up.

Yeah, he was better but unfortunately part of AT&T era and Siemens wants no part of the AT&T past.

Actually, Cronkite was the 2nd narrator followed by Irons and then Dench. The original was Lawrence Dobkin, long forgotten.

Highly unlikely since they have the voice matched with the awesome interactive ending. Also two weeks is not enough time to undertake something of that magnitude. My guess is general sprucing up and repair.

Strange time to close it! You would think they would wait a couple of weeks until the summer peak season ended in September. Closing the signature pavilion for Epcot during peak season doesn't make sense for such a short duration project.

From various reports around it seems to be work on the track to fix and smooth it and not narration or effects.

Hope this is the case-- It's hard to glide through time with the "kerchunk" every 10 feet or so.

They're probably wanting to get it done before the food and wine festival starts in September..still, though, I'm surprised they aren't waiting til after Labor Day.

At least it should reopen before our trip the last week. We've already read that Muppets 3D and Jungle Cruise are going to be closed while we're there. The kids aren't happy about that, but if this was closed, too, they'd be REALLY upset!!!

I love Judi Dench, so I'm very happy with the current narration. I doubt they are changing it, but I bet changing it could happen almost overnight. The recording of the track would happen months before.

I am sad to see Spaceship Earth closed while we will be at WDW. Doesn't hurt my feelings that Jungle Cruise is closed, hopefully the Cms will learn new jokes.

Yeah, I've heard that but Disney Imagineering says Dobkin. I was there for the opening and first narration and it didn't sound like the voice of the Outer Limits (Perrin) to me.
