Spaceship Earth....What's wrong with it?

I actually love the ride. Very nostalgic but still effective. Not everything has to be a thrill-a-minute coaster.

And yes, this ride is a welcome respite from the hot weather and crowds. Almost theraputic.

I personally love the loud vehicles and the clunking track...but I understand how some feel the need for a rehab. The new sponsor, Siemens, has said that they will keep the attraction as is (how does that 'gutting-it-out-and-replacing-it-with-a-roller-coaster rumor keep coming up?) which I'm happy about. The bad thing about doing rehab is that the ride would have to be closed for a period of time...and if I was on a trip and SE was closed, there's no way I could go to Epcot.

I am a HUGE fan of SSE! I love the tales of the history of communication, and also love to look for Hidden Mickeys throughout the ride! I understand it stops sometimes for the disabled, but I don't mind. It never really has a wait, and it is a decently long ride.

SSE is always the first ride we go on the first day we get to the parks. Personally I love it, it's a great way to relax into Disney. :)

I believe that spaceship earth is a classic disney ride, and should be kept as it is. :), maybe new ride vehicles and a new track though.

I'm glad they're fixing it up. When we were on it in Decmber the track was so noisy and clunky you couldn't hear any of the audio at all. We avoided it in April.

Having been on it many times with someone who is severly disabled, I wanted to mention 4 things about boarding for people with disabilities.
1) They try to avoid stopping the moving walkway. As much as possible, they just slow it. For many people with disabilities, that is enough and the ride just slows.
2) In order to minimize the ride disruptions, they try to group people with disabilities together and board several at the same time.
3) During an emergency, some people with disabilities would need assistance during an evacuation. Because of fire safety reasons, there can only be a certain number of people with disabilities on the attraction at the same time.
4) You may have noticed a little seating area outside of the exit from the ride. That's where people with disabilities wait until boarding.

Possibly the only rehab that Spaceship Earth is in need of, is getting rid of the foul mouth teens that resent anything educational. I bet they were ready to shout " 'F' this ride" way before it ever stopped for loading the disabled. :furious:

We love SE. When we went on it (sniff) last week (sniff, sniff--yes we miss it already!!), it did slow down and even stopped a few times. We didn't mind at all. We just know that's part of every ride and if it doesn't stop, well then we just got lucky!! The soundtrack did skip--especially coming into Greece on the right and then Rome on the left. Hopefully that can be repaired. There are just a few words that are garbled, but it would be nice to have it back to where its understandable.

I like SSE. It's a must for me at least 4-5 times each trip. It's such a relaxing ride and I think the coolest part is the "burning" of Rome. The crackling sounds and the smell just makes it seem so realistic. I've been on it a few times when it has stopped and always guessed it was to allow disabled passengers to get on.

Don't worry...those foul mouthes teens don't know what they are missing out on. I am 20, and really dislike when immature young people 'keep up the reputation' of being noisy, obnoxious, and careless to those around them, especially with small children. I am very sorry that happened to you.

i agree totally. im a teenager myself but not at all a foul mouthed one. Its teens like them that give a bad reputation to the other teens who love diseny world. They knew it was going to be eduacational but its also fun to look at. -sigh- thats really one of the most disrespectable things ive ever heard. For one you have little kids around and second of all you have adults around. Be respectable. how hard is thta ot keep your comments to your self :confused3 not hard at all...

How we handle this ride is that we never wait in line. If there is a line we come back later.

We also make a bet at the beginning as to how many times the ride will stop. I usually win. :cheer2:

If it is stopping to let on handicap guests it is alright with me. I am willing to accept a bit of difficulty in appreciation of the fact that I am not too disabled myself. :grouphug:

The only thing I would not have liked, at all, is the rude people screaming obsenitities. Teens, adults or whatever. THAT is what made the ride intolerable and I hope the CM's kicked their foul mouths out of the park. :cool1:

SSE is my our favorite ride at Epcot. I hope they don't change it.

Amen to that ufgator. I loves me some Spaceship Earth. :cheer2:

We had some kids behind us doing the same thing and we weren't even stopped! It was "This ride SUCKS! And F*&^ this!" the whole dang ride. I felt bad for the parents with little ones, because even my DS11 was distracted and neither of us enjoyed that ride. We went on again later and had a much better experience.

Yes a lot of the stops are due to them having to stop the cars to assist a special needs person who is not mobile on and off the ride. Haunted Mansion and Buzz Lightyear have the same type loading system and have to stop also if someone cannot enter on the moving walkway system. Spaceship Earth appeals to most guests and I think more non mobile people ride it than any other ride, we always seem to stop. DH and I do enjoy it, though it is dated now we ride it at least once each trip and often two or three times.... :sunny:

At least when Buzz Lightyear stops you can really rack up the points! :thumbsup2

We use SE as a good "resting ride" if we've been walking for some time and need a break.
