Spaceship Earth: Mickey hand or no?

Inspired by the Cake Castle thread...

Do you prefer Spaceship Earth with the Mickey Hand, or did you like it better in all its wonderfully plain simplicity? (Oh sorry, that was a leading question.)

BTW, this is my first poll. How did I do?

I used to really dislike the Micky hand, but I've gotten used to it.

The future world side of EPCOT, to me, is so much about science education -- even the newer "thrill" rides can inspire kids to pursue careers in science and engineering. I've always found a little "magic" in science (the "How'd they do that?" reaction), so the Mickey hand doesn't bother me from that perspective.

I like it without the hand. Why does everything have to be flashy? The sphere by itself was simple, but elegant. The sphere is an icon, without the hand on top telling everyone they're at EPCOT.

I've gotten used to the hand and am actually growing to like it. Its eye catching and I can also see the magic in the science part of FW

I have grown to like the hand and wand, but do they really need the EPCOT up there as well? You've got real problems if you don't know where you are and need the giant sign to find out. I didn't mind the 2000 for that celebration, but its not like they are celebrating with anything with the park name up there. Imagine if they hung a huge banner on the castle that says Magic Kingdom or stuck a sign on the top of the tree of life that said Animal Kingdom.

I agree with the population. At first I did not like the hand, but over the years it has grown on me. Last year they had images on the ball after Illuminations which was really cool but I didn't see it this year.

I liked it when it was for the year 2000. I mean that was a pretty big deal. New year, new decade, new century, new millenium. Pretty cool. I am growing used to it, after all its been up there for just over 5 years now.

I am glad I have pictures of it when there wasn't a hand on it. I think it would be nice to have it without it for a while. Maybe only put it back up during really special things like Epcots milestone birthdays or WDW milestone birthdays or something.

Oh and for what its worth, I did vote no and to turn it back to the old way.

I'm torn. I like the color it adds but I'm not too crazy about the design. I guess those two things sort of combine into feeling like I wouldn't mind if it stayed or if it went. Either way, it's still EPCOT and I'll have a great time.

It's evil...but it's still "temporary".

If you notice, you will not see it displayed on the Disney planning DVD (though I believe you can almost see the edge of it during one of the talking heads segments). However, you will notice that in all "sweeping" shots, they use pre-wand footage.

Rumors were it was coming down this spring before the HCOE, but obviously that didn't happen.

It just doesn't fit the park, for me. The hat either - the hat is nice, just not smack dab in the middle of the entrance to the GMR which used to be a much more immersive way to enter the park.

I hate the hand, but I'm sorry to say I think it's here to stay. While on a KTTK tour, I asked about it & the Hat. It took so much construction to build those, that they will likely never, ever put the time, money & effort into taking them down again
Shame - SE on it's own was a perfect Icon for Epcot - nothing else was needed to get the point across.....

I'm obviously in the minority, but I love the hand. I think it makes Spaceship Earth look really nice!

I like the hand. I cant believe how some people are offended by such a thing.

I'm one that enjoys improvement at WDW....if it werent for change, we'd only have the Magic Kingdom.

Guess it is a sign that I am getting older! I liked the way SE looked in the beginning. Very elegant and understated. I agree, during 2000 it was ok. Marked something special. Now it is time for it to come down.

It makes no difference to me either way. The only time I saw Spaceship Earth without the hand was when I was a little girl. I didn't go back to WDW until my honeymoon in 2000 and the hand was there, so the hand is what I REALLY know. But if they were to remove it, I wouldn't miss it...just like I don't care if they leave it up.

I liken it to putting a giant banner above Cinderella Castle that reads "MAGIC KINGDOM". The "2000" sign was a nice touch for the celebration, but when it ended, the whole thing really should have come down.
