Space Shuttle Viewing on 8/9?

Help!My kids and I will be in Orlando (flying down from the midwest) to see the shuttle launch and Orlando. Where should we stay the night of 9th to get the best view. Somewhere we can "Park" ourselves and not have to deal with traffic. Should we be stay in Cocoa Beach or Titusville. I have reservations at hotels in both town.Thanks for info.

Either place would be good to see the shuttle. You cant miss it going up for miles around. Im not sure about which hotels in the area are good though. We saw it on 7/12.. was great! We were staying at WDW and got up at 2:30 to drive down to Cocoa Beach. We stopped on the side of the road about 7 miles before Cocoa Beach and pulled over... found a spot on a little strip of beach. The traffic was not bad at all, but may have been much more congested at Cocoa Beach. If you have a room there, I imagine you could go out in the parking lot and just look up Enjoy!!!

this is my luck!!! everytime we go to florida there's a shuttle launch one or two days before we get there or after we return home. Can they get their dates right?? LOL

I also saw the 7/12 launch. The best place for viewing is the Kennedy Space Center. You can either get a car pass or bus tickets to the launch viewing area. Both are probably sold out, but you should be able to find them online somewhere (ebay, yahoo, on news groups, here). since I think this launch was postponed from July. The shuttle schedule changes frequently and people get stuck with non-refundable tickets.

We ended up driving to Space View Park in Titusville. The park is right on the Indian River and we had a great view. Traffic was not that bad. It was an easy drive from WDW, a little more than an hour and maybe an hour and a half back. We got there an hour before the launch.
