NASA just pushed back the shuttle launch a week, new projected date is May 22nd...... more testing is always good, but it's too bad for all those hoping to see it on the 15th :sad1:

We'll be there on the 22nd I would love to see the launch.April ::MickeyMo

We did leave FW one day and go to see a launch. The date changed and we just happen to be able to watch it. It was an awesome experience. We were close enough for the sonic booms. Quite an experience.

I may have to change my plans. We will be there from 5/21 -29. My husband works at Lockheed Martin's Michoud facility where the external tank is manufactured. This has always been one of my dreams to see a shuttle launch. And my 2 grandsons would go ballistic over a real launch. Last year we evacuated from the New Orleans area when it looked like Ivan was heading for us. We went to Houston. Of course, we had to take the boys to Johnson Space Center. They loved it and still talk about it. We were going to take them back to Houston for a weekend trip so they could spend more time at the Space Center. If they get to see an actual launch, OMG!!!!

That is disappointing for those expecting to see it on the 15th of May, but a great bonus for those of us who will be at WDW during the launch. We have always said we wanted to take our boys to see a launch during a WDW trip. This won't be the trip for that, but I hear there are several locations that allow a good look-see. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where in the "World" is a good spot to see the shuttle? Any info on the time of the launch? Also, I hear roads to the Space Coast from WDW are gridlock during launches. Any advice on that in case we have a change in plans? Thanks, and I really am sorry for those who will miss the launch. :grouphug:

Go see a launch if you get the chance, we have seen two.

In Sept '96 we got up early in the morning to watch STS-79 lift-off at about 5 am. We drove out (from SOG) as close to the cape as possible. The nighttime lift-off was amazing, but we were a little tired at the park later that day.

The next one was STS-112 in Oct '02. We were actually at IOA. My nephew noticed the plumes of smoke in the sky and pointed them out to us. We all looked up in time to watch it for a little bit.

The launch in May should be very special after the long delay since Columbia.

I have seen several space launches--use to live near by. It is great----even better the night launches. My saddest launch--was when I was in high school and the shuttle did not make it---that was a very sad day----

everything has a reason for happening and maybe there is one--

    for those in heaven, we have not forgotton

something to be aware of ---my mom has told me(because my DH wants to see one)that since 9/11 that there is sometimes only a couple of hours notice before the launch----I am not sure how it will be now---just a heads up!!

If they are already delaying the launch now, there is a good chance they will delay it further and maybe, just maybe we will luck out and see the launch when we are there the following week. DS would LOVE to see that.

:flower: I was excited to see that the launch was rescheduled for May 22 because we will be there that week. It will be my 4th launch. My brother has never seen one so that will be cool. One of the astronauts lost on the Challenger was from our small hometown so it is always neat to experience something like that. :goodvibes Rebecca

Even if you can't get to the cape, if you're on property, you will have a great view! We've seen 1 shuttle launch and a couple of satellite launchs from both the BWI and YC. It's a spectacular sight! :)
