I've heard great things about these bags. Which ones are recommended and where is the best place to buy them?
thanks

I bought ours in Costco and got a great deal - 20 of them for 19.99. They come in all sizes and you can either use the vaccuum to suck out the air or roll them. they work great.

I got some at the Samsonite outlet store and some at the Coleman Outlet Store. They both worked fine. I had one of about a dozen that wouldn't hold a seal, so I'd take along an extra or two just in case.

These saved our lives on a winter trip to London with the school band where we were only allowed one suitcase each. They work best for winter clothes like sweaters and fleece that compress a lot.

For packing if you can find them I use the Hefty 2 gallon bags. Cheaper then the space saver brand and work just as well.

I thought the seals on the space saver were a disaster.

My DH is a big guy at 6 ft 4 in and about 250 pounds and we had no problem using the 2 gallon hefty bags to pack our clothes. It's so much cheaper than using the space bags!

And gallon ziplocks work great for socks, undies, kid's clothes, adult tees, swimsuits, etc. I was amazed at how much extra suitcase space I had when I used these for items like the above. Makes it so easy to unpack & keep things together, too. I just put the bags in the drawers & take out things as needed.

how do you end up closing the hefty 2 gallon bags? and how do you vacuum seal this?

I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond. They are great. With the exception of my husband (who feels the need to pack 10 pair of pants for a 3 day trip), me and my sons were able to pack all our clothes for our 9 night stay at Disney (plus a night to get down there and back) in a duffle bag. Of couse we each had our own but it was great. Can't beat 3 duffle bags for luggage for that long of a trip.

The kids sit on them and I zip them shut. Its become part of the tradition of vacation, sitting on the bags and zipping them shut!!

I zip the bag almost all the way shut and then roll it up to get the rest of the air out. (I don't have kids to sit on them!)

thanks!!

i gotta check these out. I never knew that hefty had bags with zips.

I had loved the 2 gallon Zip Lock bags for packing, so I thought I'd like the space savers even more. I bought the ones from Wal-Mart and they were TERRIBLE. You are supposed to roll the bag and the air comes out the other end. They never worked, they opened immediately....what a mess.

Went back to my ZipLock bags and love them. I fill them and zip most of the way across. The I press out air and sit on the package to really flatten it, then zip.

I have seen specials or sales on SpaceSavers at www.ebags.com. (Occasionally MouseSavers will have a special code for some type of discount at eBags as well.)

agnes!

Just be careful with Space Saver bags or Hefty bags. The advantage is that you can get more in your suitcase. The disadvantage is your suitcase will weigh more since you've squeezed so much more in it. This can be especially critical if you're flying, most airlines now have a 50 lb. weight limit per bag. So, if you're over weight, you'll have to pay an extra fee, or try to re-distribute everything in your luggage will standing at the counter.
