We were thinking of getting one to help cut our heating costs this year. We have a gas fireplace that heats up our downstairs living room but then upstairs and the kitchen/dining room is so chilly. We were looking for a tower one since we have a cat.

Any suggestions? Thank you!!

I used a couple of them a couple yrs back when we ran out of propane... They heat the areas you occupy well, but didn't notice a significant rise or fall in our bills.

I was just thinking of pulling out the space heater this morning.. Our bedroom is a converted 2 car garage, so it stays hotter than anyplace in the summer, but it sure was cold last night!!!!

We have a heat pump and it is just always cold air coming out unless that dreaded red light comes on.:scared1: Then is hot but emergency heat.:scared1: We figured just keeping the heat lower and use one of those would help out.

My place here at the lake (seasonal) has no insulation in the walls and very drafty old windows.. It's also "elevated" - which means the cold air gets underneath the structure and makes it even colder.. Used to be I couldn't move up here until sometime in mid to late May and usually had to leave a week or two after Labor Day..

Several years ago my son-in-law rewired the place and installed a wall heater for me.. It's about 12" high and 8" wide.. It has a thermostat dial on it and two different safety switches that will cause it to shut off if it overheats or there is any other kind of problem.. It throws off a ton of heat (fan forced) and is installed "in" the wall (flush to the wall so it doesn't stick out at all).. Obviously you have to be careful not to have anything placed right in front of it (furniture or anything else) - although that is one of the safety features: place something in front of it and it will automatically shut off..

I turn it all the way up and when it reaches a temperature that I find comfortable, all I have to do is slowly turn the dial counter clockwise until I hear a click.. It shuts off and then turns on again by itself when it drops below the original comfort level I chose.. It's not really very expensive to run at all.. (No different than running the a/c in the summer..)

But the best part is that it works so well at keeping me warm in here, I have been able to move up here as early as the end of March and leave as late as the second week of November!!! Really extended the amount of time I can live here..

Unfortunately though, I have some water pipes outside that are "exposed", so when they are in danger of freezing I have to leave.. This year the very, very cold weather has arrived quite early, so I'll probably have to pack it in this weekend..:sad1:

I love this wall heater though!! By far the very best investment I ever made in this place.. Does an excellent job..:thumbsup2

Your heat pump shouldn't be blowing cold air. Have you had it check out?

We do have a service contract on it and they come out twice a year. It is not COLD air, but it is cool. Unlike if you have gas heat where it is warm air blowing out of it. :)
