Hey everyone :wave2: I've been hearing all of these horrible things about people dying on the Mission Space ride yet I still want to try it. I am sure alot of people go on it all the time but I was just wondering what your outlook on the ride was. Is it worth the risk of riding it or should it just be skipped all together?? Thanks :wizard:  :teeth:

I had fun on the ride. It's basically centrifugal force, so if you have issues with being spun in circles you MAY feel sick. I personally was fine, just a little dizzy when I got off. I went on with my dad last may (he has ALS, so has a weak neck, but still did ok). SO ya, In general i think it's ok unless you have a pre-exsisting condition. Just listen to your body you know?

I absolutely hated Mission:Space!! I had to go back to the hotel because I was feeling so sick! Luckily, it was during Evening EMH, so it was closing soon! My DH and DS 10 rode it twice in a row and it didn't bother them at all!! So to each his own. I think if you are in good health to begin with, you should be ok! Have fun and let us know what you thought of it!:thumbsup2

I second the above-personally I hated it and felt really sick when I came off, but so many others seem to think its worth the park admission on its own! Of the 2 people that died, one was a 4 year old with a previously undiagnosed heart condition and the other was a lady with pre-exisiting high blood pressure. Only you know what your own body can take!

:teeth: Thank you so much for the tips on the ride. I have no previous health conditions and I can pretty much handle any ride so maybe I will try it but wait until the end of the day just in case. Thank you again for all of your input. :) :sunny: :)

DH has a defective heart valve and chose to try Mission Space shortly after it opened. It sent his heart racing, and not in a good way. The episode was brief (during the take-off sequence) but was still pretty alarming to him and me. The kids can go on it all they want but they'll do it without Dad & Mom in the future. When Disney warns that people with heart conditions should avoid this attraction, they really are not kidding.

We rode a few times when we were there a couple of years ago. My DW and I are in our 40's our DS was 9 at the time. The first time we rode it my wife and I kept checking on our son, looking sideways contrary to the instructions. When we got off the ride I had to sit down and collect myself. This is the first time I ever felt shakey coming off a ride. When we rode it later I stared straight ahead at the screen like you are instructed to do and I didn't have nearly the problems. Our son absolutley loved it everytime we rode and can't wait for September when he can ride it again.

So I suggest you follow the instructions and if you are healthy you should have no problems...Have Fun

My husband and step son (14) went on last Aug. Husband felt bad for three days after and stepson was throwing up for the rest of the night. I will not go anywhere near it and I refuse to let my 7 year old son on it. To me, its not worth the risk to find out if you have underlying issues that may kill you on this ride. There is plenty of other fun stuff to do there.

DH and I (in our late 30's/early 40's) felt a bit woozy afterwards and were due at Garden Grill about 30 minutes later . We just relaxed until then and I felt fine but DH said he would not ride again. Our DD (12 at that time) loved it. I was SO nervous about riding that first time I think I worked some of my nausea and anxiousness up before I even rode. I was so worried about DH and DD doing exactly as I instructed (breathe, keep for eyes on the screen at all times, etc.) that I really did not enjoy that first time. Then, when we went last year, me and DD rode again and I loved it and felt fine afterwards. We are going again this August and me and DD will ride again but DH says he will pass again! I agree with the others, know what your body can handle.

I am a 57 YO overweight man who is far from peak condition. I love rollercoasters and thrill rides. My family and I think M:S is one of WDWs best attractions. The pre-show is well done, the props are great and the ride itself very unique.
They warn the riders beforehand that you will be in a confined space, be subjected to 2x gravity, and be thrown around in your seat. There are motion sickness bags at each seat.
This attraction is pure Disney in that the attention to detail is fantastic. This is a not-to-be-missed ride for our family.

Everyone seems to have so many different opinions on this ride. I think I could handle it. I always say I want to go to outter space so maybe this ride will be the closest thing to it. I think I will try it at least once but at the end of the night when its almost time to go home. Thanks again guys for all of your imput.. :teeth: :sunny:

I say, if you're good and healthy, then try it at least once...this ride is like nothing I've ever done before..I love it and I get motion sick at the drop of a hat. This ride only left me feeling slightly queasy for about 30 minutes or so. I always found it odd how it affects everyone differently. Some who have never been motion sick will get off this ride and be sick for hours...others like me and DD who get sick alot weren't that affected by it. I would recommend you wait til later in the night to ride it for that reason. Otherwise I think you'll love it, especially if going into space has always been something you've wanted to do. The take off part of this ride is amazing! Have a great time :thumbsup2

Thanks for the feedback..I think I am going to go on it definitly..Now I cant wait..Ill make sure to keep you updated on how I liked it... :woohoo: :woohoo:

Just curious, how long does the ride last?

I really disliked MS. I like other "thrill rides" (RNR, TOT, etc.), so it wasn't that I was scared - but I hated the sensation the g-forces caused. Plus, it's pretty claustrophobic (very close quarters) and they warn you over and over to keep looking straight forward so you won't get sick.

But lots of people do like it!

Mission Space was a great ride, road many times, and everytime was great. You know your body and how you fell, pay close attention to your inside alarm, you'll know what to do when your there. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and on many different meds and made out fine.

My family and I went on MS in January of 05. I personally experienced no ill effects from it after the ride and didn't think it was that intense to begin with. The only problem I had was during blast off when the ride places the greatest amount of G-Forces on your chest. That made it difficult for me to breath. However I feel that I should mention that I am an asthmatic and often have trouble breathing anyways. I went on the ride twice and never had any real problems. My parents however thought it was to intense and my DM got a little queezy afterwards. The closest example I can give you of a simmilar ride is those centrifuge rides that seem to pop-up at county fairs and carnivals (you know the ones were you lean against the wall and when it gets going you can lay on your side and not fall). :teeth:
