Saw this article describing the addition of "Andy's Room" to Tomorrowland, and they suggest it's going where the arcade used to be, but a quick check on google maps shows that footprint to be where Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin is currently. Buzz certainly needs some attention, one way or another.

This is likely for the gift shop that already exists at the end of the ride. It's a "mechanical" permit which usually means HVAC and it expires at the end of October, so it isn't anything major. It's possible that this shop was always called "Andy's Room" internally and this is nothing more then routine HVAC work. I guess that there is a slight chance that they are re-working the shop, but I would think we would have seen other permits before the HVAC one.

I looked into this a little further and it doesn't look like this is related to the gift shop, the work are is clearly part of the ride. I have marked it in red in the image below. I still don't think it's anything major.

Correct. This ride is supposed to get a decent refurb next year as well which it desperately needs. The ride is very worn down.

The other versions of Buzz also have different shaped targets which are worth different points. The version in Anaheim, Tokyo, and Paris is superior to WDW's in multiple ways.

So far shanghai's version looks like it's going to beat them all.

remeber we were the first so it would be nice to get some of the updates as this ride was a quick design to fill a spot and just took off. I would love to have the detachable guns and update the targets but i have to admit that this is one of my favorite rides at the parks

I'm going to go down the rabbit hole on this one...big shock.

One thing I've never taken exception to is the duplication of properties in parks...ie nemo in EPCOT and ak or little mermaid in mk and studios.

Others have consistently gotten riled about that...

This is where I hop on that train.

Too much toy story...plain and simple. With a new development at studios...this was their chance to take buzz OUT of mk altogether. I know it's been a cheap, popular ride...but it's basically redundant with midway mania and could be taken out to accomodate... Gasp... Something NEW...

Imagine that imagineering? Instead of a set change or giftshop add-on...whatever this permit is for...you could do something maybe not rehashed.

Studios is the big problem right now...not that they didnt do it by choice...ak is still probably second with EPCOT catching them on the quarter
Post...

But lets not go brain dead here on mk either.

Set aside fantasyland...the only thing that has been touched in the last 15 years is the conversion of timekeeper to laugh floor.

Obviously you wouldn't expect much investment in the park for now...but another 10 year lull would be pretty smelly after that time. If they're gonna start "sprucing up things" other than untouchables like small world and pirates...it could be a bad decision.

Just a thought.

While I understand giving people the big franchises...to run 4 parks in a 5 mile span with more and more crossover is getting old. Leave that kind of redundancy at the giftshops and restaurants... Where nobody seems
To care :(

I'll generally agree that they're pretty top heavy on Toy Story and that Tomorrowland could do with something new, but personally I'd look at either Monsters or Stitch (pick Stitch, pick Stitch!) for replacement before the Buzz Lightyear ride.

All that said this is probably just some sort of maintenance and coming out of the operations budget for the park, not anything more than that. By all accounts there's a lot of maintenance needed so its mostly a good thing.

To go you one better... I think all 3 if those things should go ;)

Actually... The majority of Tomorrowland is now 45 years old... And the "new, retro" overlay turns 20 I think in about 2 weeks...

Rustic works for the other lands far better than it does over there. It's looking a bit dated. And they need something...

And yes...it will probably be some repurposed Star Wars.

They started off badly by not redoing space mountain a la Disneyland a couple years ago...that was cheapskate nonsense.

I'd rather see them keep Buzz and take out TSMM, I much prefer Buzz.

With that said, I believe this is just a routine HVAC permit.

It's quite likely nothing mi

I'd have to imagine that a complete redo of Tomorrowland has at least been kicked around. The area looks tired, and the rides, excepting Buzz which already has an arguably better brother in HS, are either in bad condition, or just plain bad. CoP needs some TLC. SM needs, from what I've read here, a lot of TLC. AO is fine, but the ride entrance/egress is far from Disney Quality. The TAPM is fine, and the slightly hokey entrance system has retro charm, IMV. Stitch and the Speedway need to be put out to pasture, and Monsters Inc is a wasted opportunity (IMV Crush does the same thing better) that'd now be far better served being something else.

Perhaps when the HS dust settles, they'll clean up some of the duplication, and give this area the love it desperately needs.

Yes the permit doesn't have the length where they could do significant work.
