Space Mountain

I have a question about Space Mountain. I want to ride it, but I'm afraid it goes too fast. I rode the Rockin' Rollercoaster last year. How fast is Space Mountain, compared to the RR? Thanks!

I have never rode Rnr (only been to MGM once since ride was there, and line was too long), but I can tell you that Space Mountain is a pretty tame roller coaster. My mother will ride it and will not ride any other coaster in existence.

Space Mountain scares me too. I think,it's the thought of going through a tunnel in the dark. I have probably been on a train that went faster, but somehow Space Mountain still scares me. Maybe if I just don't think "too" much, I can ride it. Did that with Big Thunder Mountain, and that was not too bad.

RnR is definitely more intense than SM. My mom is NOT a thrill ride person, and she even liked doing SM! It's really tame, no big drops. I think it seems like you're going faster if you sit in the very front (which I love), so sitting in the middle would probably be good for you if you're nervous about it. If you did RnR, you can definitely do SM!

Well I actually have a harder time with Space Mountain than RNR. While they are both in the dark, Space Mountain seems to have more of a feeling of not knowing where the track is going.

Part of it for me, too, is the restraints each use. RNR uses the over-the-shoulder harness, but on Space Mountain you are sitting single-file with just a lap belt.

However, after riding Space Mountain a couple of times, I became acclimated to it and have grown to really like it!

RnR is more intense, but I think that SM is more "jerky".
I would agree, if you can do RnR, SM should be no problem

I looooove the Space Mountain ride at DLP and was expecting something fantastic when I got to WDW but I was disapointed. It is a very tame roller coaster and not at all like RnRC.

Hae a ride, It should be a good stepping stone for a more adventurous you!

Rock 'n' Roll Rollercoaster is a lot more intense than Space Mountain, the latter seems quite tame in comparison. I wouldn't let it worry you at all.

Space Mountain only goes about 25mph, believe it or not. I think the fact that you can't see the track makes it seem faster, but it's actually quite slow. However, it is a much harsher ride...RnR is soooo smooth compared to SM, I think.

Personally, I prefer SM at Disneyland more---I don't like the seating arrangement at WDW (although since they're refurb'ing SM at Disneyland right now, I wonder if they've changed the cars there?). I prefer side-by-side seating rather than the bobsled style they have at WDW.

It doesn't go nearly as fast as you think it goes. We thought we were going 50 mph or so. My kids love Space Mountain (and my oldest is a self-proclaimed coaster wimp).

The highest speed for Space Mountain is exactly 28 MPH. When your in the dark, your a little more disoriented and it makes the illusion that you're going faster. It really isn't a bad coaster at all. There are no flips or anything, its not like the one at DLP (which is multicolored and does flips). It's really just up, down and turning. But it's fun. It is SOMEWHAT like RNRC but it is a different type of coaster, has much lower speeds, and of course no inversions. SM is kind of like the kiddie version (thats still loved by adults and teens) of RNRC when you think of it.

Space Mountain is my favorite ride....It does seem like you are going much faster than you are and it is much darker inside than Rockin' Rollercoaster. Overall though, Space Mountain doesn't have large drops or upsidedown loops....it is a very tame coaster....but tons of fun 'cause you are in the dark. I also love it because the second you step into the line...it is like being in a space station! There is just this magic about it....it's not your everyday rollercoaster!

OMG, if you rode Rockn RollerCoaster, you can definately ride Space Mountain! My 5 year old rode it!
