When we were in WDW in 2000, I couldn't wait to ride SM again in 1993 I rode it and LOVED it! But when I rode it in 2000, it just seems to whip me all over the place--I felt like a rag doll. My DS (age 9 and small for his age) and my nieces, ages 5 & 8, both want to ride it this year~ but all I can remember is being jerked around really badly and I'm worried for them to ride it. What do you think?

I think Thunder Mountain jerks you around more than Space Mountain.I think 9yo and 8yo should be fine might be to much for a 5 yo.I've seen many small ones that love it though.:wave2:

If you are concerned about getting bounced around, try the Rockin Roller Coaster in MGM. its really a smooth ride :)

It also depends on where you sit---if you are in the back car--you get whipped around MUCH more

I don't remember space mountian being rough, but they have gotten new cars (I don't remember when). My DS7 and DS5 rode last August and both loved it. DS5 barely made the height requirement and since I had to sit behind him I was very nervous, but he did great and ended up riding it a few times. I hope that you have a much better experience this time.

I find BTMRR to be a rougher ride that Space Mountain. It helps on SM that you're squished down (OK, maybe just me there  ) in the rocket car. My DD9 rode it last summer and loved it - I was little nervous the first time with her also due to the sitting single-file thing, but she was totally fine. I'm trying to get DD6 psyched up to try it on our next trip!

That is SO true, as I found out last year. I do NOT like the back car. CM was not very friendly when I politely asked if I could wait and catch a different seat in later cars. I thought that was a reasonable request--I did not ask for front seat, and I was willing to wait. I guess they get tired of requests after a long day too! :wave2:

I definitely agree that it is much rougher than it use to be... or maybe I'm just getting old! :earseek:

It definitely is a bumpy ride. My mother decided last time we were there that she wouldn't be able to ride it anymore because it hurts her back...and she does big thunder mountain over and over! The kids I wouldn't worry about. They'll do fine. :) The first time I ever rode it, my cousin advised me to keep my head straight forward, and it probably is true that the more you keep still, the more comfortable it is.
