I last visited in 2005 and Space Mountain was undergoing refurbishment. We are planning to ride it on this visit. How does it compare to the one in WDW? Thanks

I'm sure most people would agree that the one at DL is SO much better. The one at WDW was not very smooth and it reminded us of the Matterhorn which gives us a headache. We were very disappointed with the one at WDW.

As of this time and date, the win goes to DL as its smoother. However the one at WDW is going through a major refurb so...who knows in a few months?

Thanks. Is it a similar ride? The one at DL Paris is very different and very popular but I don't like it as much as the one at WDW.

I believe they are very similar if not exactly the same. All those lights...I get confused.

The cars are different at DL and more comfortable. I am sure there are diehards who will sign in to give a better description but DL is definitely smoother.

I read over at the WDW board that the WDW refurb is so extensive that it might not reopen til 2010! So they are not just changing light bulbs over there.

Well, it's not like the DLP one where it has loops and stuff, but it is a VERY different ride.

1. Seating arrangement: DL's seats 2 by 2, 3 rows per rocket, 2 rockets per train. WDW's as you know seats 1 by 1, 3 rows per rocket, 2 rockets per train.

2. Audio: Plain and simple. DL has music programmed to match the ride, WDW's doesn't.

3. Smoothness: DL 436890x more smoother than WDW's. Just leave it at that.

4. Darkness: During DL's Space it is nearly impossible to see what's in front of you. On WDW's Space there are some points (though not many) during the ride where there are lights and you can see what's coming up.

All of these 4 combined make DL's far superior to WDW's Space.

DL hands down. The seating is better, it has a soundtrack, the ride is darker & smoother.

Additionally, the WDW version has two seperate tracks (Like the Matterhorn) whereas the DLR version has a single longer track (10% longer acording to this book http://www.amazon.com/Disney-Mountains-Imagineering-Its-Peak/dp/1423101553/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1238348963&sr=8-1 )

The two rides are not very similar except that they both are themed to a flight through space inside a similar structure. Space Mountain in WDW is much closer to the Matterhorn than anything else, although its a lot rougher than the Matterhorn (to me, anyway, and I've ridden both in the past couple of months). That might be because the actual ride is rougher or because its in the dark and your body can't prepare for the turns and dips ahead. SM (DLR) blows SM (WDW) out of the water currently. We'll have to wait and see how the refurb in WDW goes to see if it stays that way.

Couldn't have said it better myself!:thumbsup2

We went on the WDW one last year and it was so rocky that by the end we all felt a bit ill and only went the one time. We loved the DL version, so much smoother, we went countless times.

Hands down, no question DL has a better SM. It isn't The Classic, but it is a new classic and it is great!

The one at WDW was pretty feeble, I almost laughed at it. The seating arrangement was strange to me and the decor was really poorly done. And this was just last nov. You'll dig DL Space Mountain, but then again you guys have the TTA...
