Space Mountain: WDW vs EuroDisney

I went on Space Mountain at EuroDisney (Disneyland paris or whatever it's called this week :D ) a couple of years ago and throughly enjoyed it.

I've heard that SM at WDW isn't as good as the one in Paris, in particular that the ride is similar to the black hole in Alton Towers rather than SM in Paris (in particular that SM at WDW doesn't go upside down or do any full inversions)

Has anyone been on these rides that can offer an opinion on the differences between them?

Thanks
Brendan

You've heard right. When Disney built Space Mountain in Paris they really raised their game. Synchronised orchestral score, amazing effects and a wild ride all help make this one of the best coasters ever. For me it's still the most 'complete' coaster experience, even though it has got quite rough in the last couple of years. i do hope they give the trains and the track a good refurbishment soon to smooth the ride out a little.

Space Mountain in WDW is dull and unpleasant by comparision, and we don't bother riding it any more. There are lots of good coasters in Orlando, so we don't think it's worth our time to queue for Space Mountain.

Rob

IMHO SM in DLP is a much more sophisticated ride than SM in WDW, but in saying that I do think Rob is being a touch harsh on the WDW version. In it's own right I think it's still a worthwhile ride and certainly for someone that's not ridden it before I think it's one that you need to make your own mind up.

Perhaps the best way to approach it is to dismiss any notion that it is a similar ride to that in Paris, it shares a name, but that's about all.

I agree with Vernon, though Space Mountain in Disneyland Paris is better in many ways the one at WDW is still a very good ride in its own way. As I have rode it more and more I have grown to appreciate it, to compare it to the black hole in Alton Towers is not very realistic I think that the Black Hole is an awful ride in comparison.

I think that it would be worth you riding it and deciding what you think on the day, hopefully the queues won't be too bad they can be rather long especially if any of the other big rides are off.

Bit of a reality check needed here, guys ;). I haven't ridden the DLP ride, but given it's 20 years younger than the one at WDW, I'd be mightily disappointed if it wasn't better!

The Black Hole scared the living daylights out of me and, whilst SM at WDW is a bit bumpy, it's a far superior ride.

I sort of agree with you Deb - the whole of the Disneyland park at Paris has the feel of a company that was striving to improve on everything it had done in the past. However, this does not always hold true. The Walt Disney Studios at Paris is just a pale reflection of other Disney parks, and the new park in Hong Kong looks like it might fall into a similar category. Sadly cost-cutting seems to be the order of the day now, rather than building on the rich heritage that the Disney Company has.

If you do get to DLP make sure you ride Space Mountain - you'll be in for a real treat!

I agree with Rob, I've been on Space Mountain in WDW once & have no wish to ride it again. Whilst I've been on the one in DLP many times & love it!

It isn't as good as black hole at Alton Towers but the same idea & seating.

i do agree that perhaps you should try it yourself you might like it! But be warned it's not worth a long queue, which it normally has. So ride at a quiet time or use fastpass.
