Space Mountain refurbishing?

I heard that Space Mountain will be closed during our next trip to WDW. My son's favorite ride I read that it will be closed until Nov. 21. Do the dates ever change with these refurbishings? Like they predict a later date so no one will be upset if it takes that long, but often finish early? Just wondering if there is any chance it might be done when we are there Nov. 7 -14.

Rumor mill is that opening by 11/21 is optimistic, but that is the date Disney is using in internal communications. All depends on what they finally decide to do during the refurb. Longer refurb time = more upgrades, shorter time = less upgrades. Exactly what will be done is uncertain as yet.

In my experience there's a 50/50 shot. Sometimes they open wayyy early, sometimes they are closed when they're supposed to be. Cross your fingers! It's so popular you would think they would try to have it open by mid-summer.

Well, it's a lenghthy rehab so it would crush one of their busier times no matter what. Perhaps they chose what the did because of that time being right after Spring Break and opening before the Holiday season.

Since I go every year it's no big deal but if it was my only trip in 5 years, I would be crushed...... even with as much as I dislike Space Mountain.

You never know with refurb's- and Disney doesn't either. I rode the refurb'ed Pirates a day or two before the scheduled opening, but the refurb for the former Teppanyaki (now Teppan Edo) restaurant at the Japan Pavilion got extended several times, and was not complete until many months after the first reported finish date.
Will Space Mountain open a couple of WEEKS early? I would seriously doubt it, but you certainly never know. Good luck!

Thanks for all the input. We got once a year, so it is not like it is our only trip there in a lifetime. Still, my 8 year old is disappointed. Perhaps he will find a new favorite ride!

Do you think attendance will skyrocket Thanksgiving week (even more than usual) with the expectation that SM will open according to schedule? Just curious since that happens to be the week we are going.

Where did you hear this info? We arrive late 4/17 and would only have 4/18 in our week to ride. I think that MK is going to still be packed from Easter that weekend, so I'm dreading it, but I MUST ride SM before it closes.

If the start date of the refurb has been delayed, that would be great!! (for me)!

I think it is the slow moving ride that goes around Tomorrow land near space mountain.
