For those that didn't know, Space Mountain closed sometime in the last three days. I am here right now and it was open on Monday. We went this morning and it's closed now for some reason.

We rode the TTA thru Space Mountain and it was all lit up. You could see the entire ride and it really resembles a large metal scrap heap! It's funny. If the ride frightens you now, you don't want to see it in the light that's for sure. Not a pretty sight!

man you are lucky!!! that is my dream to see space mountain with the lights on

Thats interesting, When we went on it last week it closed down due to a bad sensor but it reopened later that day , and we rode it without any problems.

I wonder what it wrong with it now.

Here is a cool link I just found about the different space mountains and noticed the MK's version is slower than disneyland and paris.

Many years ago I was able to ride it with the lights on. I don't remember exactly what the problem was but alot of people decided not to ride it but I did and it was weird. Kind of really took away from the scariness of it since you could see whers you were going.

we were at the MNSSHP on sunday 10/16 and rode Space Mountain early in the event. We went back later and the castmember said it was closed for the rest of the event. we also road the tta and saw Space Mountain lit up and it was awesome!

We were on the Pirates of the Caribbean last week when it broke down. They turned on the lights and we could see the boats backed up all the way around. Pretty cool. I liked it better with the lights on.

The SM at DLP is nothing lke the one at WDW. The one at DLP is amazing, more like the RnRC. It is a launch coaster and really moves. I personally find the one at WDW boring in comparison and was very dissapointed the first time I rode it as I presumed it would be similar to the one at DLP which I love. I guess it is a lot older ride though. My wish is that they would update it to be like the one at DLP. I guess that will never happen though.

I rode space mountain when I was 7 at the MK, the first roller coaster I ever rode, so to me it still seems fast for some reason, even after all these hyper coasters iv'e ridden... It may be that when I ride space mountain I think of how it affected me when I was a kid. 28mph still seems kinda slow, it feels faster to me.

SM at MK has always been special and scary due to the fact that it feels like it may fall apart at any second. Seeing it in the light only confirmed that fear!

Hmmm. I wonder whats up with that ? WHen we were there for 2 weeks in September it was closed everytime we wanted to ride and also saw it with the lights on while riding tta.

I think this is why I HAVE NOT been on it since I saw it 2 years ago like that! :guilty: It spoiled the fun for me.

When we were in WDW this past July it was closed also. We got into the ride and it stopped. We were waiting in line and we saw it with lights on. It was certainly a scary sight. I absolutly hated it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want to see Disney "Behind the scenes" I want to see the magic of Disney. I am trying desperatly to forget that image. lol It was closed almost the entire week then.

We were there last weekend & got to ride it 3 times, but then the rest of the time it was broken. We went on the Blueline, wedway people mover..(still call it the older names LOL) and not only did we get to see the lights on (I have seen that many times), but got to see a mechanic actually walking on the stairs as if he was checking something. Now that is something that I have never seen in all my years of going... someone actually walking the ride. I was wondering what was up with it that it was "down" so much last weekend. Still haven't found out... :confused3

Yeah, when we finally got on it, it was not like I remembered it. For some reason it didn't seem as fast, or as scary, or even that fun. All I could think about was "ok I know what is going to happen next because I saw the tracks" It really spoiled it for me and I was certainly depressed after exiting it.
Though I have high hopes for next summer that the experience will be like how I remember it. :teeth:

After riding the Rocknrollercoaster, space mountain seemed tame to us. But we still liked it Nostaliga I guess

That thing must go down daily or at least weekly...

It was down for several hours back in June of this year when we went. We also rode the TTA and saw the coaster with the lights on.

The thing I like about the coaster is the memories (like everyone else) and the fact that I can bring my 5 year old on a roller coaster besides the Goofy Barnstormer. He's still a little too short for RNR Coaster....so, he thinks that Space Mountain and Tower of Terror are the coolest things in the world.

Can't wait to bring him on Mission Space this year...

Speed :moped:

It was down when were there in May --we also rode the TTA & saw
it...couldn't believe how small & cramped it was! It was up & running both says in late Sept/early Oct we were there-dh rode it.

I also don't think it should be changed any....it was my first real coaster as a kid as well---I can remember my bros. torturing me in line about how scary it was (actually it still is to me cause I hate the climbing anticipation on coasters!) My bros used to tell me that the shooting stars in the sky above our head was actually the rollercoaster!! :rotfl2: I was SO FREAKED out about that & in tears but rode it anyway!

You know RNR doesn't bother me cause it doesn't have the dreaded 1st hill...that I hate! strange huh?

SM with the lights on looks weird. I didn't ride it with the lights on, but I saw it and it was just weird.

Another post mentioned SM at DLP. SM at DLP is really different from the one at MK. The one at DLP is scarier. It caught me off guard because I was expecting it to be like the one at WDW.
