Space Mountain: Can a thin-ish 5 year old handle it?

Thanks for the replies. If you sit behind your child, can you hold onto them at all?

I would always ride this with my daughter in front of me. She too is very slim for her age. Me or my husband hold onto her shoulders to make sure she feels secure, it really works to help from her being shook around on the ride. If you can't hold her shoulders down, try holding onto her shirt or jacket (I know it sounds crazy), I did this too and it worked great!

As a follow up to this thread, we just returned from our trip. Our DD was barely tall enough (she was measured at each point at SM) but she met the height requirement and wanted to go on it (she was thrilled that she was tall enough for the ride).

It was me, DW and DD (5). I rode in front with DD behind me and my DW behind our DD. My DW held on to my daughter from behind for most of the ride and our DD loved it. She had a great time and thought it was really neat.

One quick point about SM:

If your kids are sensitive to sound, make sure you bring earplugs. At the beginning, the noise can be quite loud during the "takeoff".

My DD didn't meet the height requirement until she was 7. "I" was nervous and sat behind her. I'd lean forward and hold her shoulders just for my own piece of mind. She appreciated it initially. Last year at age 8, she cut me off. I'm still nervous for her as she's tiny as well.

I took my neice to DL when she was six. While her height wasn't a problem, she was terrified. At DL you sit next to each other and I could feel her tears on my hand the whole time. She cried for a few minutes after the ride. She's was a pretty timid kid. Just a note that not all five and six year olds can handle that intense of a ride.
