Space Mountain broke down today

It was closed for acouple hours from about 3ish to 6ish and possibly later. I think something bad happened because when we were being escorted out I saw acouple fire rescure guys being taken towards the ride and they closed down the people mover for awhile. They gave everyone fastpasses that were good for any ride. So my gf and I went onto the people mover and got a video of space all lit up.

Does anyone know why it was closed because it seemed to be more than a typical broken part.

I don't know why it broke down this time but it is becoming more and more common for it to go down. I was there about a month ago and it was broken everytime I went to ride it. I believe it is going down for rehab sometime next year.... it needs it badly.

That's very odd.

Maybe it was just a precaution? If anything really bad had happened it would have been closed much longer than 3 hours. It would have been closed pending an internal investigation which would have taken a couple of days or more (like at M:S and RnR)

We were there too. We had just rode TTA and the ride was working fine. We saw the line said a 20 minute wait, so dh and ds went in line. They were told the ride was closed to come back in an hour. So we rode Buzz and Carousel of progress, then they went back to Space MT and it was opened. Never heard what happened.

Th eride i think is almost 30yrs old maybe its time for a full over haul ,i just hope it dosent happen when im there,,i also hope the rest of your time there is without insident..

Although the ride building is that old, don't think the ride itself hasn't had a "full over haul" in all that time. SM is maintained carefully, inspected every day and has regular rehabs.

I don't remember the exact date, but it's been since we moved to Florida, so sometime between 2000 and 2006

When I was there last week it broke down...but only for about 15 minutes...I saw it all lit up and got some pics. I wonder what happened when you where there?

I hope they don't make it like the SM in DL. It was closed for over 8 mos?? and it stinks. I like the original better!

It was closed for a time due to 'technical difficulties' on the day before - the Thursday morning too when we tried to ride. It had re-opened by the afternoon though. Buzz was also closed around the same time.

We also got stuck on Splash Mountain on Monday for around 25 minutes (Zip a dee doo dah for 25 minutes!) - we got free fast passes for that one and got stuck again on Everest on Tuesday for a while (no free fast passes on offer).

It can shut down just by a drop of a pin on the track I believe. The last year they had e-nights it went down while I was in line and it was because someone had lost a hat or something.

hmm... I've never had that break down while we were in line or on the ride. Last year, though, Pirates of the Caribbean broke down while we were on it. They turned all the lights on and it was neat. I actually enjoyed it but we did sit there for 20 minutes in our boats and people were getting antsy.

I was there yesterday and thought it was strange we were on the people mover when it broke down. When we were getting off the people mover they closed it down. I thought that it might have had to do with SM, so I asked the CM, she said SM, and the people mover are tied together, so both were shut down. However, about 20 min. later my dd rode the people mover, and SM was still down.

Wow, really? I absolutely loved SM at DL, I hope and pray they bring that to WDW. The DL one is so smooth and WDW is very jerky and rough compared. I don't even plan on riding SM this next trip to WDW as I know I just won't enjoy it like I use to.
