my wife and i are about to join at hilton head.
does anyone have problems getting the time that you want?

My only suggestion to you is that if you are trying to go the week before Easter that you definetly make your reservation at the 11 month mark. HH is my home resort and for the past 2 years I have waited until Nov to make my reservation and I have been locked out. You would hve thought that I would have learned my lesson after the first year but NOOO!!! So, with any luck I will be going home to HH next year. Just remeber that HH is the smallest of the DVC resorts and keeping that in mind will help you when planning your time there.

Use your 4 month booking exclusive especially for summer months. Also most of the villas are 2 BR so if you are looking for a studio or 1 BR the booking window becomes more important.

Of course any resort has high times and low times, and the ressies for high seasons go fast. I personally prefer the off-seasons and have had no problem with ressies.

My first reservation was made just after I joined. That was in a January and I wanted ressies for the upcoming March. I had to go on the waiting list, but it came through and gave me what I wanted with no problems.

I do have a set time I like (January) and even with that I use as much of the 11 month window as I can to be sure.

I would definately recommend using your 11 month advantage for the busy summer months (Jun, July, Aug.). Dec & Jan & Feb you can probably get a room on 2 week notice. All other months should be easy to get into using the 7 month or less window. Holidays are usually busy and 2 bedrooms are the easiest rooms to get.

It doesn't make sense to me to buy at HH unless you want to go there during the months of Easter to Sept and possibly Christmas. The reason I say this is that you can rent a 2 BR at any number of Marriott resorts for as low as $199-324 for a 2 BR for a week Oct to Feb except maybe the week of Christmas. When you consider that some of these resorts are in much better locations and in some cases possibly even nicer resorts than DVC, it just doesn't make sense to spend that type of money on DVC for HH off season.

Likely the best HH off season ploy is to buy a cheap timeshare and join II. Considering the Getaways and discount travel, it's very worth the $74 regular membership fee and the $500 or so you can buy an off season week somewhere. You could even buy an off season HH week for $1000-2000 with fees of $500-600 and use that to trade into other Marriott's (or HH summer) while using the getaways to stay off season at HH.

Don't get me wrong, I love DVC, Iown 502 points with 2 contracts. You'll never see me using my points to stay off season at HH unless there are special circumstances.
