Space 220 kids menu question

Looking at going to Space 220, but I know my 13 year old DD will only want to order from the kids menu, since I already showed her the menu.
1st question, when I make the reservation do they charge you up front or is it just needing the CC to hold the reservation and then you pay at the restaurant?
2nd question, will there be an issue with my DD ordering off the kids menu, since it says 9 and under?

Since it is a prix fixe restaurant, your DD will be charged the adult price, no matter what she orders.

Based on this fact, you may or may not want to rethink her order or your reservation.

1) CC is to just hold the reservation.

2) She will likely be able to order from the kids’ menu, but expect to pay the adult price for her.
Okay, now we have been to other restaurants where they had fixed prices but did not charge until after the meal and we were charged the kids price when our DD ordered from it. That was why I was wondering if they charge before or after.

If you can get a lounge reservation, she wouldn't have to order from the prix fixe menu - she could order from the lounge menu. But if you are in the restaurant, expect to pay the adult price since she is well over Disney's cutoff age of 9 for kids, even if she orders from the kids' menu. Typically, restaurants will offer a larger portion of the kids' items to those over 9 and will charge accordingly.

^Agree and to add, this is not a Disney restaurant. The non-Disney tend to be a bit less flexible. May get lucky but be prepared to pay full price. That is something I would be factoring when I book my ADRs.

You've just been lucky up until now.
Sorry, but luck had nothing to do with it. Because each time I always go over this with the CM at the reservation podium when we check in.

Good idea. I may try the lounge area and see if they have any openings, but I am sure that their spots get taken a lot faster.

Thanks everyone for your input, I will try lounge first and then restaurant if nothing is available in lounge.

I mean lucky in that the CMs have been generous with their interpretation of the policy. In a high demand location like Space 220, policy interpretation is typically more strict.

I just realized that the lounge is strictly walk up only, so I think that knocks that out:(

Not to highjack but you can just walkup to go to the bar for drinks? Just want to get a glimpse of the restaurant - I will have 4 littles (4 and under) so eating is probably out of the question but if the adults can grab a quick drink at the bar that would satisfy us.

No. No one is let inside unless they have an ADR or have waited through the bar line outside. They do not allow "glimpses".

Bar you would need to wait in a standby line outside and not let in until they had enough bar stools for all of you who enter. There are only about 10-12 bar stools. Waits can be very long. AND they might not seat the kids at the bar.

If you have a lounge ADR can you request to sit at the bar? Or is bar seating strictly standby line?

I do not know BUT the bar folks have waited in a line ... I don't know how they would handle, like would they make you move to wait in the line? And would you get the no show fee for a table? The bar only has about 10-12 chairs so it stays very busy.

If you are in the Lounge, you are not required to order anything specific. Could be just drinks, could be lounge food, could be restaurant food. The bar has no advantage, and it's a standby line.

Thanks for the insight, that makes sense, especially if it's the only option for walk-ins.

Bar seating is just a preference for us, we often choose it at restaurants when we can. It's fun to see the drinks being made, and a bit more of a social experience to chat with bartenders when they're not too busy or to chat with others seated at the bar. I'll check it out when I'm at Epcot in a few months!
