Was is the cost?

Is it any good?

Bump -because no one answered and I'm curious about this too!

i went and had the "mystic tan" applied at my gym on wed night. they take you in this room with a huge box-booth similair to a tanning booth. you undress completely and put a surgical-type covering over your hair. then, you apply a lotion to the soles of your feet, ancles, hands, palms and wrists(because this is where the most dry skin is) then on the rest of your body you put a different lotion(brand was called"angel" and it seemed like regular lotion to me). you get in the booth and press the button when you are ready. 5 seconds later the shockingly COLD solution is applied in a spray to the front of your body. i actually sreamed because it scared the living you know what out of me!!!!:hyper: then, you turn and face the back of the booth and the back of you is sprayed with the coldest spray, EVER! you wait about 10 seconds, and then you exit the booth and try to towel of evenly the solution from your entire body. once dry, you dress and exit. when i left the booth room, there were people looking at me laughing because i was screaming in there. i felt like such a moron. but seriously, the tan looks natural and even, except for my hands----i didnt wipe the solution well enough from my palms, so theres a little streaking(like with sunless lotions) well, well worth the money not to have uv damage. IT LOOKS AWESOME!just one word of advice--- ITS COOOOOLLLLLLDDDDD!!!! :p

Okay so basically it's a self-service type thing? I mean you put the lotion on, you turn it on, you wipe yourself off, right? (ie: less embarrassment LOL)

I know this might be too much information- but if you can attack these questions as delicately as possible so neither of us get embarrassed (LOL)- did you get every part of your body sprayed? I mean if you did, how'd you manage that? Did you move like arms up/chin up, etc. when you got sprayed or did they tell you to stand in a particular position? Was it "even" or darker in some places?

I ask because I'm interested in this. I'm very white (besides what sun I end up getting on my arms when driving) the past few years (many years actually....) and haven't had good experience at all with applying sun tanning lotions in the past. So this is intriguing! So I don't have to blind everyone with my whiteness the entire trip. LOL

(did they say how long it would last?)

No one has been much help on this subject so thanks mariamard! I heard you are to have some procedure domne prior that exfoliates the loosest dead skin so the tan applies and lasts better. Did you do this? I am also curious about things like the inside of the arms etc. I don't know if you have seen the episode of Friends where Ross has this done but it is OUTRAGEOUS.

I HAD TO STAND LIKE THE LETTER T. THEY NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT EXFOLIATING-BUT GAVE ME THE "SPECIAL" LOTION(IT WAS JUST LIKE LUBRIDERM) THEY COME IN JUST TO SHOW YOU HOW TO USE THE EQUIPTMENT.......THEN PROBOBLY STAND OUTSIDE THE DOOR TO HEAR YOU SHREEK WHEN YOU GET SPRAYED :) IT WAS 2 SESSIONS FOR 1 AT MY GYM($25) AND WELL WORTH IT. IT LOOKS EVEN AND NATURAL. ID SAY, AS IF I WAS AWAY IN THE SUN FOR A WEEK!! NO KIDDING! I WENT IN THE REGULAR TANNING BED 3 DAYS BEFORE THAT AND FRIED, SO THAT MIGHT HAVE HELPED. THEY SAID 2 TIMES AND YOU ARE DARK ENOUGH TO LOOK AS IF YOUVE BEEN IN THE SUN FOR A WEEK, I WENT ONCE AND I LOOK TROPICAL.IT LASTS FOR 1 1/2 WEEKS AND THE WHOLE SESSION LASTS (UNDRESS TO DRESS AND EXIT)ABOUT 4 MINUTES. OH YES, YOU ARE COMPLETELY NUDE---IT WOULD STAIN YOUR CLOTHES.THE TIP OF THE DAY FOR THIS IS WIPE IT OFF YOUR HANDS COMPLETELY---I HAVE A LITTLE STREAKING ON MY PALMS-NO BIGGIE.
BAKAROMA--MY MOM CALLED ME ON THURSDAY AND TOLD ME TO PUT ON FRIENDS---I WATCHED THAT AND LAUGHED SOOOOOOO HARD" IM AN 8!!!!!!"THE WHOLE BODY WAS EVEN--EVEN UNDER THE ARMS.
BIPPITY---THE WHITER YOU ARE--THE BETTER. YOU GET DARKER IF YOU ARE LIGHTER----IM ON THE DARKER SIDE BUT IT STILL LOOKS AWESOME. OH, THE RESULTS DONT SHOW UP FOR 4-6 HOURS, JUST LIKE SUNLESS LOTION. I DID IT AT 9PM AT THE GYM, CAME HOME WENT TO BED(CANT SHOWER FOR 10 HOURS) AND WOKE UP TROPICAL:sunny: REALLY LADIES---DO IT! I LOVED IT. IM GOING TO GO AGAIN EVE OF NEW YEARS EVE, THEN A FEW DAYS BEFORE WE CRUISE.

Thanks for all the info!!!!
I just now noticed you said you did it at your own gym- I must have skimmed that part of the sentence to get to the "good stuff" (LOL- about the actual process of the sunless tan application) and I thought you meant you did it on the cruise! LOL

I wonder if it's any different on the cruise- the time listed for it is 50 min!

What is the price?

Did I miss it in any of the previous posts?

How long does it last?

Thanks....

The salon for mystic tan I went to this summer failed to tell me that you needed to NOT shave for 24 hours prior to the treatment and for 3 days after or the treatment may streak. Also, no lotions prior. Sounds like different places may have different procedures, I wonder if it really matters...4 days without shaving?!!! :smooth: Needless to say I had to pass on the "tan" this time before our summer trip to the beach, but have wanted to try it again. Did your salon require this? Thanks!

if you do Mystic tan you still need suncreen for how white you were before the "tan"

I have never done this, but I'd try to do it THE DAY BEFORE THE CRUISE at a local salon. (I assume it's available other places.) That way you'd start out the trip pre-tanned, you wouldn't use up any cruise tan on a "chore", and it'd probably cost less.

I wouldn't consider it a chore- I'd consider it a "pampering myself and helping to stop blinding all the rest of the guests on the ship" kind of thing. LOL
But if I have to NOT shave for 4 days prior- I'm sure my husband would consider it a chore... and people would be looking at me funny... all hairylegged and stuff.
LOL

The salon where I did the Mystic Tanning said to exfoliate (with their expensive stuff or a plain old loofah) first...no mention of shaving. They did say to wait 4-5 hours before showering, but even after waiting overnight, and late into the next day, the color streaked. I definitely would not do it on the cruise. It rubs off on your clothing, if you swam, it would run (or even got sweaty- they did warn me about that) and it smells. They had me stand with my arms out to the sides, but after the 1st time or two, I found that I needed to move my head up a little to get my neck tan, and (kinda yukky) spread my legs a bit more to get the insides.
I think if you're young, and thin, with no lines or wrinkles, it may go on more evenly...if you get my drift.
I'm now doing the tanning beds, and like it much better.

Oh forget it. I'm not young and I have wrinkles, curves, etc. and I wouldn't want it to get on my clothes and make me smell!
Forget that... guess everyone will just be blinded by my legs. LOL

Bib~
try a tanning bed.... start out slow and work your way up in the minutes. That's what I do and my tan looks natural.

It seems like a waste to start out at 2-3 minutes, but if you're very "white", you don't want to burn. You won't see results "right away", you just add on minutes each time you go... if you feel like you're starting to burn, you can get out. I have a handtowel I keep to put over my face when I "feel the burn", as my face burns easily, nothing else does though. I'm at the max of 20 minutes now. Usually I just go once a week to "keep my tan", but with my cruise coming up next week, I've been going about 3-4 times a week.

It's also relaxing to lay down for 20 minutes, listen to music, organize my packing list in my head, make mental notes of things I have to do, etc... it's like therapy!!! it's heaven to me.

We know someone who owns a tanning salon. They recently purchased a Mystic Tan system. We nearly fell over when we heard the price.... $30,000!!!! Takes a long time to pay that puppy off!

im sorry that your mystic tan was a mistake tan;) i liked it.......i didnt have any streaking at all, except for a little om my hands. i kept wiping my body down till it felt raw because i was so scared of streaks(bad sunless lotion experience that lasted 1 long week:rolleyes: )and i shaved that lnext morning---no problems. no problem with the smell after the shower. before the shower, it ssmelled like sunless lotion-yuck.
but, to anyone doing this, im with mrs pete-try it at a salon near you at home once or twice....im sure that it is a heck of a lot cheaper and if you dont like it , its going to go away.i did it again last night and im pretty happy with it. i will use the regular tanning beds 1-2 times a week untill we go-then ill go again 1 or 2 times the week before.
bib-- im with jeanny ....try tanning beds-gradually. you will love it:sunny:

If the procedure on the ship takes 50 min it may not be "mystic tan".

I did a series of airbrush tans (1 per week) at a spa. It was not self applied and it did not streak. It lasted 5-7 days.

A spa tech applied the color with a spray gun while you wear a hair covering and your bathing suit.

I am very fair and it worked well for me. Each application was approximately $25 plus tip.

If you tell the tech to just give you a LITTLE color you should be fine. It didn't wash off even if you use a wash cloth. It gradually fades. Call your local spas and try it and see how it works for you.

The one time I had poor results was when the tech tried to make me too dark for my coloring. She was young and it was her first time.

Good luck with whatever you decide. My only suggestion is try it a few times first or do the tanning bed. You don't want to go on the cruise and feel self conscious. You want to feel great!

:sunny:

Thanks for all the suggestions/advice/etc. Tanning beds is not an option for me- I've already had plenty of sun damage from all the many years spent in the sun as a child and tanning booths as a teen. Now the only sun I get is while slathered in sunscreen- which is why I'm so white. I wouldn't waste that effort by then going into a tanning booth- that's why I was interested in the sunless tan.... the look of a tan without the skin damage.

I wanted to try sunless tanning as well, but am afraid of coming out like a pumpkin. Last year, I went to the local Hollywood Tans for their version of the tan spray and they warned that because I was so fair, I would likely turn out orange. So, I've been pertrified to do it ever since. Plus, I'm afraid of streaking. I guess if I hated it I could always take a shower right away...or would that make it worse?

I burn so easily and have had sun poisoning multiple times, so I don't want to do the tanning beds, either.

Maria - How did you put lotion on your back and rub it down okay? I guess if you'rre tan by the time we have our DIS meet, I know why, right? I'll be the really, really white one in longs pants and sleeves. :D
