Spa Gratuities

Can you please confirm how tipping is done for onboard spa services? I have read the recent threads on overall tipping and general advice there.

When leaving the spa, will I have a receipt to sign (put it on the room account) and an opportunity to add gratuity then (a la Remy/Palo)?

Or would it be automatically included at a set rate added to the price of the treatment?

Or should I bring cash separate for the spa tips because they may not be handled the same way as our dinner server at the end of the week, for example?

An 18% gratuity is automatically added to the spa services. You can add extra if you wish. There will be a receipt with a line for tip.

It's probably a different culture thing, but 18% gratuity already added on to the bill is just cheeky.

Particularly when on the cruise that departed yesterday, to Norway, the sales pitch was...on the spa tour, book now, we will be busy as your weather on this cruise will be bad....

OR, you can make the mistake I made on my very first spa visit... adding an 18% tip on TOP of the automatic grat. Totally my fault. They don't remind you when you sign. I always check everything now. LOL

This really bothers me too. We purchased a product of the scrubs for the rainforest and there was gratuity on the product as well!

My understanding is that the spa is an outside vendor and not controlled by Disney.
All of the other auto tips (bartenders, etc) can be adjusted up or down. You cannot adjust the spa tips down.

Spa personnel get 18% for selling a product, and bartenders get 15% for mixing a drink

No. Any beverages purchased in the bars/lounges, poolside servers, or at meals, have a 15% auto gratuity added. It's not removable. That gratuity is pooled to be shared by all beverage servers/bartenders. If you add an additional tip, or tip in cash, that tip goes only to the person you tipped.

The gratuities that can be adjusted are the ones that go to your room host; dining room server; assistant server; and head server.

I don't get it. I consider the money I pay to use The Rainforest room as rent. Why should I need to tip a gratuity when there was no service given to me? The only staff person I gave contact with is at the front desk.

I completely agree. There is no service being performed.
