After reading the recent thread with very mixed reviews of onboard massages, I'm really hesitant about booking this. But I've always wanted to try a stone massage, and wonder if anyone has ever had a bad or so-so experience with this spa treatment. It is very costly, so I don't want to book it unless I hear consistently postive reviews.

I had the hot stone massage last year while aboard the brand new Sapphire Princess. I don't know how it could happen, but one stone was much hotter than the others and it scalded me. I had a very red, very raw perfect stone impression on the small of my back, right where my waistband was.....perfect discomfort.

I have had the stone massage a couple of times; I really enjoy it, but at that price I usually go for a "regular" massage. If you've never done it before, it's nice to give it a try. If any of the stones are hot enough to cause discomfort, be sure to tell the therapist...they should be hot, but not THAT hot!

Hubby and I did the couples stone massage this past may. It was very nice, but we both agreed we prefer the well being massage over any other treatments we have had on the disney ship.

Now, with that being said..watching the advertisements for the spa at universal, they showed the stone massage there..it looked very different and we will try that next time we are in orlando.

Eeks! That's terrible! I didn't think that would happen with professionals -- I assume that they would check the temperature before putting the stones on the client.

I have had many stone massages and have loved them, but I have modified the massage a bit with my therapist. Have the therapist place the stones on your body but have her/him use their hands for the massage and not the stones. This is the best because your muscles are already warmed up prior to her/him massaging you. If I were you maybe try a therapist at home prior to scheduling one on DCL due to the price. The massages usually run around $100. Good luck.
