My DDs and DDILs have a tradition of having a spa day at DI spa and had received a brochure from SSSR. They were finalizing their plans for our 11 /03 trip. I just read that the spa is closing on July 25 th until the grand opening of the new resort. I called to confirm this and was told they are referring folks to the Grand Floridan Spa. I then checked DVC web site and DVC spa discounts are only offered at BWV, VWL and BCV.
Has anyone used the spa facilities at these locations. Is the spa at BWV located somewhere inside Muscles and Bustles?
How would you rate the spa experience at these sites?
TIA

I just read that, too, and am SOOOO bummed re OUR 11/1 trip! I was all psyched to try the SSR spa out, after hearing such good things about it.

There are no spas in those resorts. They do hve massage rooms in the health clubs, but hardly what I would consider a spa experience. I doubt they'll be able to do facials, vichey baths, etc.

Just was at the Spa at SSR a week and a half ago and returned to pick up some "product" on July 3. No one said boo about closing. I wonder if it was a surprise to them. I hope they have jobs in the interim!

The DVC perks page that we received listed those 30% discount specials for both August and Sept. so I wonder if something unexpected came up in construction.

As Anne said at Y&BC you can make an appointment for a massage at Ship Shape Health Club. Facials are available at Periwigs along with manicures, pedicures and waxing. No personal experience other than a polish change at Periwigs. The experience wouldn't compare to the pampered feeling one had at the Spa though I don't imagine.

The SSR Spa is the best on Disney Property. I found out it's existence last fall when we were staying at Port Orleans. Prior to this trip I did not even know this spa existed.

Sorry to hear it is closing on July 25. I met a number of DVC members who were staying at OKW and paid to use the spa. It was never crowded.

Iwonder if is temporary? Last year I was advised they stopped CM members from using it. I will miss it!!

I called the GF yesterday (July 9) to make reservations for my girlfriend and I for a spa sampler in Aug for our "girl day no DH's". I was told they were booking fast and that our DVC discount was NOT available. I booked it anyway.

The closure IS temporary. It was reported in Deb's weekly newsletter (http://www.wdwig.com) that I received yesterday. The explanation was that they will be closed while they build the new DVC sales offices, then will reopen with the rest of the resort next spring.

Well, I hope that's the case, but if they close they'll likely lose their local clientele. It isn't clear that there will be a compelling enough business case for re-opening when the resort itself re-opens, and even if there is, the extended closure makes it more likely that the spa will have a harder time attaining profitability once it re-opens. So I wouldn't be surprised if it never re-opens, or doesn't last long once it re-opens.

I would be very, very, very surprised if the spa "never re-opens, or doesn't doesn't last long once it re-opens."

The Spa is an integral, strategic element of the Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa. The newest Disney Vacation Club is based on the theme of a spa in New York state! One of the main reasons for building the next DVC at the old Disney Institue site instead of at Eagle Pines was to leverage the existing spa (as well as other existing structures and the proximity to Downtown Disney).

The Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa will grow to around 600 timesharing units, which will provide many new customers for the spa. And, of course, spa customers will continue to come from other other Disney resorts.

Sure, some locals will not return when the Spa reopens -- but many other will.

And if what the people in the spa told me was accurate, it'll have a prime location. The theme pool is going to be right outside the spa. They've had little peepholes in the construction boarding the last two trips we made where you could see what was going on. Lots of big white pipes there last week.

Yeah, I guess you're right -- they're hinging the theme of the resort on the spa. Didn't factor that in.

I had posted about this over on the Resorts Board but maybe I can get a bit more imput here. I spoke with a DI , now SSR, spa CM about the closure. We are planning a long trip (19 days) next April/May and planned on using the spa at SSR at least four times. This is a trip planned with my best friend and we have been saving for over a year. The spa is an integral part of our trip. The CM I spoke with seemed to think that the resort would not open on time in the spring. Since this is the DVC board I am thinking someone here may have a handle on how things are progressing and some thoughts and when they will actually open. My thoughts have been leaning towards opening a bit early....BCV opened early and also won't they need something new to sell since BCV is almost sold out? I agree with Horace Horsecollar, the whole spa concept is going to be a major component of the new resort.

I emailed DVC MS about the closing the other day. The replied to advise me that it will be...
"reopening spring of next year when the new resort opens"

Word from the horses mouth, so lets keep our fingers crossed it will open sooner then later!
