Hi. What are some good inexpensive souvenirs to bring back to family
we have several family members. DF and i are debating what to bring back . We will get DF's Mom and nana a nicer souvenir.

there are 8 adult single indivuals
3 couples
6 kids infant-10 years old

"good inexpensive souvenirs" is almost an oxymoron.

Personally, whenever someone gives me an "inexpensive souvenir" from their vacation, it usually ends up in the junk drawer where it'll be not seen for a year or two.

IMO, edible souvenirs (like candy) are your best bet. They'll be eaten right away, which you should give you some satifcation knowing that your money was well spent.

Another idea would be pins, but only for an active pin trader.

Or perhaps a mailed postcard. Everyone loves receiving mail and a postcard shows that you took time away from your own vacation to think about your family and friends.

I agree, an edible souvenir is usually appreciated-and the Disney things are packaged nicely-but we were never big souvenir buyers-for us or others. We'd get one (small) stuffed animal for our daughter and anything else came from her own money.

I agree with the food idea! They sell nice boxes of Mickey cookies & stuff in the gift shops...for a couple of bucks! Bring one back per family. :-) Especially for the adults....for the kids, you may find some cute stuff they'll play with for a while.

If you have a car, stop at the Walmart in Orlando...they have a TON of souvenir items much cheaper than you 'll find in the parks!

This is just a thought, but would the people that you are bringing gifts back for, rather that you spend your money on something else? As an adult, I don't care if someone brings me back a present from their trip. (Not that I wouldn't appreciate a gift, but it wasn't my trip, KWIM?)

I agree with the others about the edible MIckey items if you feel like you want to bring something. I don't feel like you HAVE to bring back everyone you know a gift. If I had a friend or family member going on a trip, I wouldn't feel slighted if they didn't bring something for my family.

I hope you have a wonderful trip! (I bet the grandmother's would love a picture of the family at Disney.)

yummy food sounds good. This is our first trip so dunno what to do. We started a shotglass collection of place we've been to here in CA so from disneyland, seaworld, zoo, dodger game etc. Family know of our collection, so when they travel they bring us shotglasses: bahamas, hawaii, rome, italy, cancun, costa rica, new york etc so i thought it would be nice to bring something back to those that think of us.

We love the Disney food/Snack items also!
We have also done coffee Mugs, glasses, and sippy cups. Also fun are some of kitchen item like cookie cutters, hand towels, mickey shaped ice cube tray, etc.

The last few years the kids have gotten goody bags. (not sure how many of your kids are old enough for it, all my family is school age, you did say some were infants) We include a Magic Towel, a set of stolen soaps and shampoo from the room, a few of the "free" stickers they constantly pass out, and pens or pencils from a set we break up, and a disney lolly pop. We save the tiny shopping bags you get when you make a small purchase to put it in. They love these and have asked to have them from now on.

We ran into this problem too. I wanted to buy some inexpensive souvies for gifts but while looking in the $6-$10.00 range it looked to me that they would all break in no time.

Instead, I spent a little more and bought tee-shirts. The pins are nice too if you know it's something folks would enjoy.

I was going to suggest the picture, but carj beat me to it! Truthfully, that's about all my mom would like from Disney. She's not anti-Disney, but it's not her thing. Also, she's 74 and there's not really anything she needs. I did buy her two of those tiny pocket sized games that they sold at Once Upon a Toy (they probably sell them everywhere, that's just where I happened to find them) because she collected the minature ones. She did enjoy that, but they haven't come out w/ any new ones lately (or least not since my last trip in July of 07) For the baby, maybe a cute Disney bib? It would be cute as well as useful. Not super cheap, but I would think under $10. For school aged kids the goodie bags that another poster suggested is a great idea. Also, if the kids haven't been to WDW, may some Disney one dollar bills. We've given them to kids who have never been and they thought they were so cool. You'd thought we gave 'em a piece of gold. ;) Also, if you have time to go to Downtown Disney, check out the Mickey mart store (not positive of the name) but everything in the store is $10 or less. They also have some great deals on mix and match items 4/$10. I've bought tons of stuff from there. And my last suggestion would be a Cmas ornament of maybe their favorite character (if they like Disney and have one). Sometimes character ornaments can be hard to find elsewhere. Look for the clearance stickers in the gift shops or ask CM's about sale items. They do have some, but aren't usually to quick to advertise the sale stuff. They'd rather you buy the full priced items. :lmao: One last idea, I have... I got a speciality drink at one of our TS's and it came w/ a speciality cup. I asked to have the drink in a reg cup and could I have a brand new clean cup (came w/ a special lid and light up tinkerbell) to go. So I was 'thinking' about giving it as a souvie, but it ended up in my cupboard. If you don't use it first, I don't see anything wrong it giving it as a souvie. Now, I'd give my DSis one of my used resort mugs, but I wouldn't give it to someone else. Partly because she'd ask me for one of them. :rotfl:
Oh yeah, if they like refrigerator magnets or keychains, they have some pretty cool ones, and antennae toppers (just make sure their vehicle has an antennae, my van doesn't  )
Oh and for the food things... Mickey head rice krispie treats w/ the ears dipped in Choc. The kids go crazy over them.

Best of luck and have a magical trip. :goodvibes

Have you thought about going to a local Dollar store or Target( I found that they also carry reasonably priced disney items) and finding Disney items and making gift bags for the little ones and checking on Disney's shopping page and ordering t-shirts for the adults they are running a sale with alot of t-shirts as low as $4.99 and they also have pj's for little ones really cheap.
They don't have to know that you didn't get them from Disney World Park.
Saves you the trouble of having to carry things back.

Just curious why you have to buy souven-ears for so many people who aren't going? Not that its any of my business :rotfl:

There are lots of little items in the gift shops for the kids, cars, pencils, stickers, stuffed animals, etc. For the adults the food items are going to be your least expensive, or maybe a keychain or coffee mug - or a car magnet or antenna topper.

Laugh if you will , but I brought back Mickey's Morning Blend Coffee and Mugs for my folks and my dad loved it.. He said the Coffee is great.. ( I don't drink coffee, I suspect he could have been pulling my leg) but a can was only about 5 bucks... The mugs I think ( I brought bigger ones ) where 10 each ...

Mickey pretzels are the best and they are cheap. Every time I go to Disney I get a case for souvenirs, everyone loves them. Extras are for us.
The people at work ask about them if I don’t bring them in the first day I get back.

1. There is a store in DTD, I believe it is called the $10 and Under Store. I have bought stocking stuffers there a few times for my kiddos (10 & 3). Coloring books (then pick up some crayons at home~on sale now with school supplies), bath ducks, cool pens, sippy and regular cups, cars, a Hannah Montana game last year (big hit) ...you get the idea.

2. We aren't coffee drinkers, but Great-Grandma is (and she loves the coffee at WDW), so we pack the coffee they leave in the room to take back to her...and she is always thrilled. (She went with us on our first trip a few years ago, so she knows how we get it and she could care less, after all it is the thought that counts).

3. On our last trip we stayed at Allstar Sports, the gift shop there has lots of ESPN merchandise and we bought beer stiens, baseballs with ESPN sayings (for bil & nephew) & shot glasses (we also have that collection).

4. If you have the time and don't mind waiting in line (especially a short one); take some paper with you and have a character sign the paper and take a picture, then buy a cheap frame and give that a present. For example if one of the kids loves Donald Duck, take a picture of Donald have him sign away and give that. You could skip the frame and do a scrap book page and put it in a plastic sleeve to perserve it then the kid could hang it in their room.

5. Someone else mentioned sending postcards, have the characters sign those. My DS3 wouldn't know what to do with himself if he received a card from Mickey, Donald, or Handy Manny, saying they wished they were there or something along those lines. And even at 10, I think DD would be floored to get a postcard from Ariel (but that would be a HUGE wait)!!! :rotfl:

Hope that helps you out.:woohoo:

My kids have always been fond of the surprise packages at DTD in the under $10 shop (they were $7 the last time I was there). They have gotten autograph books, key chains, antenna ears, pencil boxes, erasers and pens.

Yes, it could end up in a junk drawer but they just love the element of surprise. I give it to them with their cousins and then they all trade with each other. I think it's fun.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I'm hoping Df will let me cut the list down. When the same people go on vacation the only one that includes my dd is her nana and my sister. About 3-4 usually bring us a shotglass. I'm starting to debate the full list because what if we go on another vacation then it will be expected. I'd like to just include

my sister(she travels and always brings us each something Rome, italy, spain, hawii, cancun, miami, bahamas and a few other places)

My two other sisters

DF's mom and nana and his sister (dd's godmother)

Dollar store dinsey kids stuff sound good especially if it will be on the floor in a few days. Whats the difference between stuff bought at disney and non disney stores. Will it say made in walt disney world flordia?

ok i'm back dd said we wont include the kids and keep it simple a family gift of a picture frame, shotglass or snowglobe, well see-lol!

I got some of these at a garage sale and was wondering if anyone knew where I could get replacement straws for them?
