My son noticed the post about picking a pearl from an oyster in Japan and asked if he could use some of his money to surprise his sister on our trip in May/June. I checked for the necklaces on ebay and this does seem like something she would LOVE and he could afford to do for her.

Now, I'm wondering, is there something similar that DD could do for her brother? I know she would want to do something nice for him as well. It would be nice if it was something knew or unexpected. He already knows about making your own lightsaber and is planning on doing this for his souvenier of the trip. Is there anything else that would be a fun experience of souvenier DD could surprise him with?? Something not too expensive??
I appreciate any suggestions or input!!!

What a wonderful family you have, and what a terrific job you are doing raising such kind, thoughtful children!

This is a little hard to answer, on the one hand, but ultimately I think you'll find it easy once you're there. There isn't quite an equivalent experience for boys, esp. since he'll already be doing the light saber. If he's into Pokemon or Yugioh or any other Japanese anime stuff (which is all in the same area in the Japan store as pick-a-pearl), perhaps you could say "no" to something he sees there and really wants, but let her circle back around to get it for him. You could do this any time on the trip -- say "no" to something he sees along the way and really wants but then let her get it for him.

The only other reasonably priced thing I can think of would be if he's the kind of boy who would think a cool haircut that included some jazzy accents would be fun, then you could hit the barber shop on Main St in the MK.

Have a magical trip!

Something he could do is the pirate makeover. I hear alot of good things about.

Another thing both kids could do, assuming the ages are right, is the Wonderland tea party at 1900 Park Fare. Boys and girls can do it. The Mad Hatter and Alice come to it, and it's lots of fun. My DD did it last March and it was one of the highlights of the trip for her. She laughed alaot and told me all the funny things the Mad Hatter did.

At the Lego store in DTD you can purchase a small bucket and fill it with all different kinds of Legos. They have a huge wall in the store with containers that has just about every kind of Lego piece you can imagine. My DS is 9 and that's his favorite place to spend his money.

Btw, that's such a sweet thing for your children to do for each other.

my kids loved the pirate league adventure. I think it is 54.95 I think your son will love it. He will get a picture afterwards for a keepsake

I think Ds would enjoy all of these suggestions, the "cool" hair, the Pirate League, the legos. I also considered one of the pirate cruises, but I don't know if he would want to go alone? He's not timid, just not sure if he'd think it's as fun without someone to share it with.
I have an idea how much the pirate league, face painting, and hair cut cost, but about how much is the box of legos you fill???
What does everyone think about a "tattoo"? Has anyone seen a boy get a manly henna tattoo? Is that even done??? I was thinking this would last longer than face painting, especially since we swim a lot on vacation...
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know DD would get a kick out of surprising him.

I have to say DS and DD are "normal" siblings. They bicker plenty at home, squabble over who gets which seat in the car and who ate the last pudding cup, but underneath it all there's love there! It's just you only get to see it under stressful circumstances (like when DD broke her nose bike riding) or special occasions (like Christmas and family vacations)! :lmao:

Thanks again.

When we were in WDW in October we wanted something special for my nephew Jack (5) as it was his first time visiting Florida (or on any holiday at all to be honest). This is what we came up with.
We were on the Soarin' ride at Epcot. Me and my family had done it a few times, so knew what it was all about, and had planned a little surprise for Jack.
If you can imagine the part where you are flying over the golf course, towards the player who is about to take his shot, and as we got closer I turned to Jack, who was sat next to me, and said
"I hope he doesn't hit us with his ball"
As the golfer then took his shot, and the ball started hurtling towards us, I put my hand up in front of Jacks face at the last minute, as if to catch the ball, and when I brought it down it had in it a golf ball that we had brought onto the ride with us, complete with Mickey Mouse logo etc.
The look on his face was an absolute picture and he held onto the ball all day long. It now takes pride of place in his bedroom and he always tells the story to anyone who asks about it.
Maybe your DD could do a similar thing for your DS but get the ball engraved in advance with his name/date etc.
Not particularly expensive but definately effective :thumbsup2

The full story is on my trip report below on post 42 :)

What a fantastic idea! My DS is 11, but the golf scene is kind of a family joke because it so totally freaked him out the first time we rode Soarin'. I just may need to pull this one on him -- really brilliant!

There are two different sizes and I don't remember the exact prices, but I want to say that it's about $14 for the smaller one and $18 for the larger one. Neither one are large by any means, but he would still get plenty of Legos to play with.

For me, Lego is a wonderful gift that you can give to your kids. It will help develop their creativity. I gave my kids Lego as a gift and until now they always love it. :lovestruc

If Legos are his kind of thing - your DD can get him personalized Legos at DTD. I don't recall the whole selection, but they have a catalog and you pick the brick colors you want to engrave & pick the font and color. Depending on how busy they are it could take an hour or so. I want to say it is about $3 per brick. I got some for stockings stuffers on our last trip.

They do have fake tattoos of the characters that you can get. There are kiosks for this all over the parks.

It's a good thing DD will be picking what she'd like to do for her brother, I'd have a hard time deciding!

Every time I come up with a question I need answered, you guys really come through! Thanks so much!!! :cool1:

I have 3 boys myself, so each trip I look for something fun for them.

One of their favorites was from Team Mickey Athletic Club in Downtown Disney:
"Rawlings Making the Game features an area where you can get a custom-made bat, complete with your name, signature, or logo engraved into the wood. There are also other customized baseball-related items available, such as helmets, and display cases."
