Souveneirs ??

I have been here reading to get ideas regarding souveneirs. My kids both have a little money from their grandparents so this money will be spent on something they will want to keep - not eat!

I am just wondering what to expect in the way of souveneirs and when-where to buy stuff. I wouldn't want to say to my kids we will get them later and then find out we can't get the one thing they really wanted.

I am planning to bring pillowcases for autographs and if the coins I have read about are fun for the kids we will get them but other than that we are open to ideas - just not junk that will get tossed in a year.

My son is a huge hockey fan - any chance they have disney ministicks?

My daughter has a link bracelet - are the charms way too expensive there or worth getting?

What about bringing things home for close friends and family? What do you all do?

Hi Helen,

It is a tricky thing, because you have to pack them up too. I got charm links last time we went for gifts (for those with the bracelets). They have some that are I believe $4 or $6 (all in USD) each, and the more expensive ones, $25 each. The cheaper ones were great tho, they have the birthstone ones in the shape of Mickeys ears, they have many different characters as well, great gift ideas. We brought back t-shirts, baseball hats, mickey ears, coffee cups, key chains and chocolate. My kids chose to buy the Mr. Potato head box (fill as much as you can in a box for $18). She also got a princess wand, he got a light sabre. Of course, they each chose a stuffed animal, Mickey and Stitch. There are so many stores and so many items the options are endless. My children each brought their own backpack so they were able to carry their goodies home in it and bring it as a carry-on. The pennies are a great idea, my dd loved doing them. Just make sure to carry change with you.

Hi, we bought so many souvenirs, it'd be too difficult to list them all. We like to buy Christmas ornaments from the Christmas store in DTD though.

For what to bring back, I went in to the Super Walmart on Hwy 27 and bought some lolipops in the shape of Mickey Heads. There was 12 in a bag for $1.69. My youngest one took them in to his JK class to share with them. There was a lot of Disney merchandise in that Walmart for under $10, clothes, fleece blankets, shirts, shorts, towels, pj's all with Disney on it. I even bought a memory card for my digital camera. I got a 256mg for $40US.

I let our kids each choose one souvenir and then we bought them two t-shirts each. I also do scrapbooking so I bought a lot of scrapbooking stuff to do our albums with and they enjoy helping with that. I didn't bring back any gifts - you have to sort of be there to enjoy the experience it seems. My parents arranged for us to stay at a timeshare for two weeks, so I made a scrapbook album as a thank you for them. We also always buy an ornament from wherever we are, so I bought the Disney dated ornament, and my husband bought a keychain - which since broke!
This year we are going to Universal too, so I told the kids one souvenir from Disney and one from Universal. Plus, we will buy them one t-shirt from each place. They really like wearing their disney t-shirts, so they get put to good use.

Well, I LOVE my picture that I had drawn for me from The Art of Disney. It's Cinderella and Prince Charming dancing. It was drawn right in front of me, and then the artist autographed it for me. I had it framed in a cherry wood frame with a pewter Mickey head on the frame. It's beautiful - cost $95.
I also love the Christmas store in DTD - couldn't get enough of it. As for the Wal Mart - honestly, the biggest and cheapest Disney stuff ever.
One other place I go to is to the Disney outlet store at the Premium outlet mall. I bought some wonderful clothing there and there were some nice framed pictures and figurines, as well as children's clothing and stuffies. I bought my sister an authentic Mickey doll for $8 (Clearance) - unheard of inside of WDW. Also, I collect bobble heads (one from every place that I visit). Anyways, just a couple of my ideas.

If you don't have access to a car, then take the kiddies to the $10 and Under store in DTD. They have a good selection of souvies and I'm sure they could find something. They also have grab bags for $6.99 that are cute to see what you get!

If you have a car, don't forget the Outlet Malls!

Best tip I ever got- Give the kids the amount of money to spend, whatever your family decides, tell them they can get whatever they want with it, but when it's gone, it's gone. It stopped all the whining, "Mom can I get this, PLEEEAAASSSEE" .Matter of fact, mine actually had some money left over. Unbelievable how careful they are with it when it's their '"own". In addition, they each got to pick out one shirt that was from us, along with an ornament for the tree.

you son likes ice hockey? i had a roommate in college who played ice hockey and so while at disneyworld i bought her a hockey puck for her bday that had pluto on it. she loved it. i found it in the downtown disney world of sports store. don't remember how much it was, i think around $6. they had some other hockey stuff there also
