Southwest

Am flying Southwest to MCO in November (after Thanksgiving). Noticed that Southwest is taking reservations through June 10th right now. When do you think they would open up to November & December?

It won't be for awhile. They will add on July, Aug, & Sept next. Knowing SWA, when they add November they will end it the Friday after Thanksgiving. This is not fact, but seems to be my observation from trying to book them in the past. They did this last year with Easter break. They put the beginning of Easter on the schedule and added the end of the week a month or more later. I like SWA, but they are more appropriate for short term planning. The past 3 times I have flown, I booked well in advance of SWA's schedule and got similar rates on different carriers. I like to have my travel plans firmed up sooner than SW allows.

I'm planning to go over T'giving as well in 2006. If I can get things sorted out, I may just book now with USAir. I'm not expecting any deals any time around T'giving.

Thanks MEK. I kinda thought that, but wanted to ask. Was just really surprised to see June up already. I'm guessing November & December won't hit until around June. I have credits with Southwest, so it's just watching for when the dates open up, then booking right away. Have been lucky in the past with Southwest in getting a very inexpensive plane trip, but it's been booking it as soon as the date gets released.

Last year I booked our flight for the end of Nov in July. Not all of Dec was posted at that time.

We traveled the day after Thanksgiving this past November. I didnt book under the regular schedule so I dont know when that came out, but I did get a ding fare ($28 each way!!!!!!) and I booked that at the first of September. I am hoping for that same thing for our trip this December. The dings do seem to be much higher now, though. Guess all that gasoline going up in price has something to do with it.
