This was out first trip on southwest. At 11:50 PM the night before a 6:30 AM flight I get a text that it has been cancelled. We had a flight with no plane change since we are traveling with a one year old. Now we have a 3 1/2 hour lay over with a plane change in New Orleans. won't land in Orlando until 1:50 instead of 11:20. Not a happy camper. Can't talk to their offices until tomorrow morning.

sorry had to vent.

Try not to stress...at least you'll get there early in the day, and not late tomorrow night. So it could have been worse! (this, from someone who has at least one flight screw up about every 6 months or so and end up with 6-12 hours of delay and sometimes an unexpected overnight).

Good luck and get some sleep tonight!

Southwest doesn't close up shop and go away for the night. The reservations number is open 24 hours.

While we've never had this happen to us, this is why we don't book the earliest flights. They tend to not sell as well, causing them to be cancelled. If the airlines think they can move those few passengers to later flights, they are going to cancel the underbooked flight. It sucks, but it makes good business sense.

Knowing this, we always try to book the third flight out, which usually leave around 7:30ish. We've always found these flights to be full or nearly full.

I doubt that is what happened. If they are going to cancel a flight because it is not selling, they do it far in advance, not the night before. SW flights to MCO usually run close to full.

Sounds like a weather or mechanical issue that prevented the plane from getting to your airport last night, which meant the plane was not there for you in the morning.

Agreed. Crew issues could have come into play as well.

It is very rare that SWA would cancel a flight once their schedule is released. I agree with the other posters that it must have been a mechanical issue or they couldn't get a crew there for the flight due to another flight being delayed. Hopefully all worked out and you got to Orlando.

Definitely.

Honestly a layover isn't that bad, even with a little one. And 3.5 hours is a bit on the longer side, but that also means you don't have to rush. You can take your time getting to the next gate, visit the bathroom (nice and big, compared to the airline bathrooms), maybe snag a snack or a latte or something...

Disneyfan I feel so bad for you. We fly SW ALL the times and ALWAYS take the very first flight out. I would totally want to vent if this happened to me. I know that all in all we have to go with the flow but when I am going to Disney I want to get there ASAP. I am sure your trip will still be just as magical once you get there. ;) Have a wonderful time.:goodvibes
