I just signed up for the Southwest Visa premier account and will be getting my 50,000 points in January. We are looking for the 50,000 points for the plus card now, but unsuccessfully. My DH thinks he can get 40,000 points now. Should we take the 40,000 or wait? We don't have any trips planned until Oct., but would probably take some more once I have the companion pass. My DH is afraid that we won't be able to get 40,000 or better if we wait. Any thoughts on if the plus card will still be offering the 50,000 points again? My DH got the 50,000 points for both cards last year, but we haven't seen the deal offered for the plus card for quite sometime. We are hoping for both of us to have companion passes this year so our kids can fly free.

40k is the best I've seen for the Plus card in a long time. I haven't seen 50k in nine months, at least.

Earlier this month I went on the flyertalk forums and got a referral for my fiance for the 50k bonus points for the plus. Not sure if they are still available or if the referral offer expired, but there's a thread on there just to ask for and give referrals. We had to call in instead of doing it online, but it's well worth it to get the companion pass. Premier card he could have gotten 50k from the standard offer online, but I had him go through my referral link so I get 5k points too. Win win.

This is exactly what I did on the flyertalk forum. The 50k promotion was only available through the phone with a referral asaik currently. It's a little more work and time, but it's 10,000 more points for 15 mins of work.

Call the same number that is listed for the Premier card. Tell them you were given the number by your friend to apply for the Plus card at the 50,000 bonus point offer and $69 annual fee. When they try to get you to apply for the Premier card, tell them no thank you, you want the plus. When they try again to get you the Premier, say no thanks. After the third attempt, say again that you want the Plus card for the $69 annual fee and 50,000 points and then go ahead with your application.

Did this two years ago and just two weeks ago again for spouse. Both cards in hand all purchases made and when statement closes next week and points hit rapid rewards account two days later I'll have the CP

Thank you to everyone for the tips. I went to flyertalk forums and quickly got a referral. I will be applying in a couple days. Very excited to have a companion pass for each child. Now we just have to decide where we are going this year.

We signed up for Chase Sapphire which right now has a 50K point offer. You can then transfer those over to SWA point for point and/or several other airlines. We will be using this for our cruise in November.

I don't think transferring points from Chase Sapphire (Ultimate Rewards) counts towards the 110k points for the companion pass. I might be incredibly wrong though.

WDW of course! haha it would also be fun to sign up and register for their promotion e-mails. Sometimes they have random crazy flights to cities you don't think about that would be fun.

I'd be willing to bet a good sum that it does count towards the 110M needed for a companion pass. I have friends that have signed up for the SWA card and Sapphire card in the same year to get a companion pass. I would do it but I don't fly enough to take advantage of the companion pass.

I'll take that bet! I have a Chase Sapphire and I know for a fact that any Ultimate Rewards points that you convert to RR points do not count toward companion pass status.

Actually after checking I definitely lost the bet. They actually signed up for the SWA regular card. Then through referral from a friend signed up for the SWA Premier card. That is how they attained Companion Pass status.

OP, I got a referral from someone on flyertalk just a few days ago. It was for 50k for the Plus card. Called and was approved 10 mins later. SO easy!

Someone posted a link for the 50K bonus sign up on another thread.

southwest .com/inflight (just remove the spaces)

While it's true that Chase UR transfers do not count toward the CP, if you are short a few points you CAN transfer from Chase to Hyatt then from Hyatt to RR and that will count. Hyatt to RR is not 1:1 though so really only a viable option if you just need a few points to put you over the 110,000 to get the CP.

That's the Premier link. I think we are all looking for the PLUS link, which is rarely ever 50k points

Go on flyertalk and ask for a referral. I did that and had two people send me one within a couple of hours. They were both 50k for the Plus card (must spend 2k in 3 mos).

I currently have a plus card and my mom just got a flyer in the mail from Chase. She said it is a $99 annual fee and she get 25K bonus points. I told her I would check with you guys here and see if there is a better deal.

So, can *I* refer her? Is there some sort of link that I need to hunt for under my account? Or can she just call and give them my RR number (or CC#) and tell them I referred her? I'm willing to go on flyertalk and get a referral from a stranger, but it seems like I should somehow be able to refer her myself. I know she would prefer the Plus, not the Premiere, and she has no interest at all in getting a companion pass.

Any thoughts?

I think you have to have a referral in your account. My aunt has both a plus and premier and is a heavy user of both cards. She actually called Chase to see if she had a referral on her account that I could use but they would not give her one. It would be worth you calling and asking, just in case, but my guess is that you would know if you had one.

I agree with this. Any time that I've had a referral in my account, it has been because Chase sent me a snail mail flier with detachable cards to give to friends & family with the code printed on it. The offers had a short life and I suspect they are only sent out when Chase is looking for new customers.
