Hello,
we are going to DW in two weeks. I don't know what would be best
to use the SW visa to pay for our meals and stuff overthere for the points or to buy GC from target and get the 5% off.
I was thinking of buying maybe 1500.00 in Disney GC if I buy them
opinions please
Thanks

I would run the numbers. How much do you think you would put on the charge card? Figure out how many points that would give you and see if that is more or less than the 5% discount.

Why not do both? Buy the gift cards with your SW visa and you will get the points AND the discount.

(I'm presuming that you have the money available to buy the gift cards with cash, correct? So just send the money right to Visa and avoid any interest.)

Target is one way/ But to use regular credit card you can try Bj's Wholesale Warehouse them. Could also check with other warehouse clubs. Also places online you can purchase discount giftcards from... plastic jungle I think is one. Also check Southwest Reward shopping. I know they have marriott cards not sure about Disney.

The 5% back at Target is best.

You'll get 1 point/$1 spent with your SW card and if you redeem that for Wanna Get Away Fares that ends up being 1.67% back.

So while the SW card is better value than other cards that just give 1% back, you're better off with the 5% at Target.

Thanks for your reply,
I will get the GC

personally, i would do a mix of GCs purchased with discount, and using SWA visa while there.
if those GCs get lost or stolen, you might very well be out $1500 (if someone finds and uses them, the money is gone. you can "stop" future purchases on the GCs if caught in time, but unauthorized purchases aren't covered like a CC. the balance left on the GCs would also have to be reissued, and you might not have the new GCs in time).
if you'll have a car, another option is to buy GCs in increments (as you will likely need them) at a target near WDW - best of all worlds, with a much lower risk factor:thumbsup2.
