Just wanted to vent. I'm usually one of the people who praises SW. I fly them monthly to either take my daughter to see her dad in Chicago or I was flying to see my dbf who is a DISer in Orlando, but now we're living together
Anyway, yesterday I was flying to get my dd from her dad at the end of summer break. Her dad always books those flights, and getting me to Chicago and then back to Orlando the same day with flight times can be tricky trying to avoid huge layovers, etc. He had me booked on a flight that started at MCO and connected in Baltimore. It was a 35 minute layover. I have never been comfortable with short layovers since even the slightest delay can really mess things up, but since it was SW who made this flight available, should be ok, right? WRONG!
We get on the plane in Orlando and it's one of the new 737-800's! Very cool to fly one one! Much smoother than the others. It's got 175 seats, vs their largest older one which had 143 seats. And an extra bathroom. All is cool until you hear the flight attendants trying to "learn" how this plane works. Apparently most things are different and they're having to have things explained to them (they seemed irritated about the new plane, and considering they were having to learn some of the new things in a matter of minutes, I can't say that I blame them). This cause us to leave BWI late. No worries I thought, I've seen them make up time in the air. Not this time! I told the FA's that I had the flight to catch and they said that they would probably hold the plane. Nope! I run to the gate with 5 minutes until takeoff. Hand the guy my boarding pass and when he scans it, it says that I'm not checked in. They had taken me off the manifest and refused to let me onboard even though the door was still open and the plane was there. So frustrating since this was completely SW's problem.
The rest of the flights were too booked to put me and dd on to fly back once I was able to get to Chicago (we couldn't fly on our original one since I arrived in Chicago too late), so her dad booked us on United out of O'Hare and we got back to MCO after 11pm last night. What a day!
