Yet another change for my vacation! lol ATA just called last night and said Southwest has taken over my ressies from Midway. The bad thing is instead of a direct flight, I now get a layover since Southwest doesn't have direct flights to Orlando. The times are very close to what I had so I can't complain too much. I had reserved seats on ATA, but SW doesn't do them, fun , fun, fun! lol :flower1:

Southwest DOES have direct flights...if the times work for you, you may want to see if you can switch to one of them. SW expanded their non-stop offerings, which is basically why ATA got rid of theirs...part of their deal.

We are also waiting to see our flight changes for our March trip, I recd an email back from them Friday that we would be flying Southwest and would be notified of the new schedule. I am a little worried that the times will not be the same or close to the same, if the flight is much earlier than the 7:25 that we have now it will be a rush to get there on time from West MI. We were originally going to pick the kids up at school at 2:30 then be on our way....

We have ATA tickets for our upcoming May trip. How and why did they change you to fly SWA? I'm wondering now if that is what they will do with us?

I am not totally sure, but ATA filed bankruptcy last year, and SW either bought them out or bought some of their flights.

My DH was just telling about the whole SWA/ATA deal is....(I guess I should have asked the "all-knowing" b/f posting this question)...ha ha.....(he just thinks he knows it all!!)

Anyway....we flew with ATA the last trip in 2002 and we loved their planes....nice large seats with lots of leg room (for the all-knowing one - since he is 6'4")

I guess only time will tell....

hey drumflower...are you from Northwest Indiana? - I saw where you were flying out of Midway....I'm orginally from that area!!

:flower1: I live in South Bend, grew up in Shipshewana! :flower1:

I'm orginally from the "region" - Portage to be exact!! I went to college in Warsaw, Indiana - (really Winona Lake - but nobody has ever heard of Winona Lake).

I really miss Lake Michigan in the summer time!!

I guess Midway or Ohare is the closest airport for you?

Hi, twinscandc! I know exactly where Winona Lake is. My parents live in Warsaw. :) I take it that you went to Grace College, right? Have you been back to Winona Lake in the last couple years? My goodness, they have really fixed up the town, especially right by the lake. It's beautiful!

I'm actually sitting here with a phone on my shoulder, on hold with ATA. 43 minutes and counting... :guilty: I got a phone message to call them because there's been a "major" change in our itinerary. So I tried at 6:00 and finally had to hang up at 6:40 to leave for a meeting. Now I'm trying again to get through. The really aggravating part is that they already changed our itinerary twice last week alone, and several times before that. I've been very patient until now because I know they are restructuring. But I must admit I'm getting kinda ticked off to be spending all this time on hold, while knowing that this will probably not be the last time they change our itinerary.

First time ever flying with ATA. Don't think I'll be trying them again soon, at least until they get reorganized a little more.

While typing this rambling reply, ATA finally took my call after 48 minutes on hold. The customer service lady was very nice. Would you believe that they called me by mistake?? Our itinerary is the same, thank goodness. The lady felt terrible that someone had called me for no reason. I assured her that it was not her fault and that I know they are swamped there these days. I didn't crab about being on hold so long either. :D

We actually like our current flight times very much. So I'm hoping maybe they will stay the same now. Could we be that lucky?? :goodvibes

Hey Travelbug!!!!

It's always nice to "talk" to somebody who knows where Winona Lake is!! And, yes, I went to Grace!! I've not been back to Winona Lake in awhile...in fact, I don't think I've been back since my 5 year class reunion which was in 1996!!! I heard about all the nice changes....someone told me that my old dorm "The Hotel" has been refurbished and is now a real Bed and Breakfast??!! It was a great place to live and go to school...

Good luck with ATA....The last time we flew with them (2002) we had one change in our itinerary, but nothing major....I also love our flight times for our upcoming May trip. We've never stayed at the BWV and we are really excited!! It looks like you've stayed there many times...did you enjoy it?

Have a great day!!

Hi again twinscandc! How neat that you're staying at BWV in May! I love it there!! The location is awesome and I really enjoy the whole Boardwalk experience. Good restaurants right there, the Boardwalk Bakery (yum!), the surrey bikes, street performers sometimes, the boats, the "clown pool", etc. Truly a great place to stay. I hope you enjoy it as much as I always have. :sunny:

ATA Update: Came home from work today and had 2 messages from ATA asking me to call them. (Oh no, not again... ) So back to sitting on hold waiting for them to take my call. 30 min. wait this time. Well, we were not lucky enough to keep our last itinerary with the good times. Should have known. Now our itinerary has us with a 5:20 AM departure out of Flint. 5:20 AM?? That means leaving the house by about 3:00 in the morning. :faint: I asked if there was anything later. She said yes there's one seat left on the 8:40 AM flight, but I see that there are 3 of you traveling. I said, "Hey, that 8:40 flight is the one we were booked on in the first place last September. Why did we get bumped off that one and jerked all over the place while other people got put on it?" She didn't know.

Gotta look on the bright side. (1)Earlier departure means earlier arrival in Orlando. :cheer2: (2)We do still have seats on planes going where we want to go on the day we want to go. (3)Since itinerary changes are getting to be practically a daily occurrence, maybe tomorrow will bring a better set of times. ;) (4)Hey, we're going to Disney World!!! :wizard:

Enough of that for tonight. Sorry for the ramble; helps to vent a bit.

Twinscandc, I didn't know that the Winona Hotel was ever a dorm. Both my sisters had their wedding receptions there back in the 80s. Then I kinda lost track until a few years ago when I saw that it had fallen into total disrepair. Now they are fixing it up. I was just there over Christmas, and it's looking beautiful again. They also built a waterfront restaurant called The Boathouse very close to the hotel. I've been there a few times and it is great. People come from all over the place to eat there.

Have fun planning your trip to BWV.

How exciting for you to be going to WDW so soon!!! I hope you have a terrific time!! I'm green with envy!! :bounce: We can't wait to experience the Boardwalk villas. We've always enjoyed the Epcot resorts, but have only stayed at the Dolphin.

About the hotel....when I was there....(I know I'm giving away my age...) in the late 80's, early 90's the hotel was a girls dorm for Grace. The two years I was in the hotel, my room faced the lake...it was beautiful all year round, but especially in the spring. I would love to take my kids there now to look around my ol' stompin' grounds. From what I hear it has really improved! I do remember the hotel having a really nice resteraunt b/f it became a dorm...we never ventured into the rest of the hotel because it was kinda spooky!!

I'm sorry about your ATA bump around.....but as you stated, atleast you have an earlier flight which does mean more disney time!!

BTW - my Dsis and DBIL just moved to Oakland township - is that anywhere near Rochester Hills? My DBIL just got a job at some big Law firm in downtown Detroit, after graduating from UofM law school. My DS says she really likes it there. They moved there from Adrian, MI. In fact, I think she told me that she sends my nephews to a Christain school in Rochester Hills...I'll have to ask her...small world, I know...

Hi again twinscandc! Sent you a PM.

Don't freak out now when SW calls! lol They just called me today to confirm the reservation change but the first thing they said to me was that my flight has been canecelled! They sure like jerking people's chains. Then he was only calling about my DS8 ! He wanted to know if I would confirm that flight, I said well yes if the rest of the family has the same flight. He wasn't even going to check. I said my 8 yr old is not going to fly by himself. Finally he was able to check everyone and confirm us. While I was on the phone with him another call came in and left a message from SW about another ticket. What fun. I think I need to call again to make sure everything is okay. :grouphug: I need a hug! or some Prozac :rolleyes1
