We had a trip planned to Reno - flying on Southwest. My DH had to attend a conference for work. His employer may or may not  be cancelling this trip due to a change in their travel policy (we don't know yet). His employer paid for his ticket and we paid for mine. If he has his cancelled we'd like to change mine from Reno to Las Vegas and take the trip later in the Fall. I checked SWA's website but there is no information about doing this other than you can change the date on the ticket.

Anyone have any experience switching dates and locations? :sad2:

You can cancel your ticket and put the funds into a ticketless travel fund to be used for a future trip. Or you can go to the travel center section of the website and choose "change ticket" and change the dates and destination. All funds from the ticket have to be used 1 year from the original date of purchase.

First of all, dont panic, the people at Southwest are amazing in general and they have changed my tickets or held the money for a different flight. They have never issued me a refund. Call them (1800IFLYSWA) and talk to someone there, they are really helpful. If you are just switching flights there shouldnt be a problem and if you kind of sneak the reason in there and sound disappointed :rolleyes1 they might not charge you for it. If they do I think it is $15 but dont hold me to it. I have not changed tickets since last summer.
Good luck

Thanks for the help. We're still hoping that maybe we'll get to go.

It's just crazy that his employer (a gov't entity) is now talking about cancelling this trip. They won't be able to get a refund on his ticket or his registration for the conference. This only came up because of a new policy that requires any out of state travel to be approved by our board of commissioners. We've had this trip scheduled, approved, and paid for, for 2 months.

Oh well, worst case I guess is that we'll be going to Vegas in the Fall!

Southwest never charges to change a ticket. You can cancel it yourself online, and then rebook using the funds which will be stored under the original confirmation #. You'll have 1 year from the date the ticket was originally booked to use the funds. Southwest is so great & flexible about this!

If I were you I would change it just so you could go to Vegas instead of Reno! <g> I just went to a conference in Reno and it was not the best city to be in IMO. Ours was at the Reno Hilton, one of the worst Hiltons I've ever stayed at. You know it's bad when your planes flies right next to it when you are landing. I ended up driving to Tahoe every day just for something to do, luckily our conference was at night.
The other good thing was it was only a three hour drive to Napa, which we did one day (well worth the drive!)
Vegas is much nicer and lots more to do then Reno.

I agree about LV - I'd much rather go there. At this point I'm hoping that they will cancel his travel voucher so we can just use my ticket in the fall. We're just looking forward to a week away from the kids!

Another great thing about SWA is you can use your ticketless travel funds towards someone elses ticket.
