So today I click on the Southwest site to see if there have been any changes in my airfare. No, though I really didn't expect there to be. But what I find a bit irritating is the big advertisement they have on their home page.

It states how you can save big if you are an early riser or night owl, and can take flights before 7 am or after 7 pm. Know how many flights leave my home airport before 7 am? None the day I have booked. Know how many flights leave after 7 pm from Orlando? None the day I have booked.

Southwest is getting really good and the whole fake sale fake savings thing. It is getting harder and harder to find their sales.

Just needed to vent a bit.

Well we have taken over the years multiple before 7am flights. Actually our Vegas flight in October leaves at 5:50am. Our Orlando flight leaves at 7:10am though there is an earlier flight that leaves before 7am but it has stops vs non stop.

We also have flights that leave after 7pm

This advertisement is listed as a sale. My guess is as each market (i.e. airport) is different the advertisement you are seeing is not specific to one airport or another but rather a general thing.

I will say that when I click on "Book Now" by the spot for the advertisement and then select my actual airport I only get these options:

Are you going through that "Book Now" part or just checking a destination outside of clicking the link?

Also here is the terms and conditions:

I can still understand how frustrating that is to see the sale and then not find anything that would match the sale.

I just ignore those "sale" emails any more.

When I'm looking to book a flight, I leave a Southwest tab open on my computer as a reminder to proactively check prices a couple times a day.

I can't remember the last time Southwest had a sale that include my home airport. And I see it is called out as being not included. There was such a huge deal made when Southwest decided to fly out of Grand Rapids. Maybe they are regretting it.

For us MCI (well KCI to locals) Southwest is the #1 airliner but they don't always have the best pricing and sometimes I find they can be high for certain destinations.

I laugh when it comes to getting from KC to STL as the cost in flight almost never works out and when you add in getting to the airport and the flight and whatnot it's better and cheaper to just drive. Even that sale screenshoted above that I put it would be a minimum of $110 for the flight (not even actually going in to look at the actual costs for each flight either)....it's not going to cost you that much in gasoline to get to STL and you likely wouldn't save much time at all just because of getting to the airport and whatnot even if the flight is only about an hr or so for non-stop..it def. wouldn't be worth it if you had to make connections.

Hey, we fly out of Grand Rapids, too!
We are on the first flight to MCO November 12. 7:30 AM. Not nonstop, of course. None offered. I was happy with it, though, because it leaves 30 minutes before last year's flight, but we get there 2 hours earlier. So, yay!

It's all dependent on the airport and that particular market. Not every market is the same. Here on the West Coast, those early morning flights are typically the more expensive flights due to business travel. So being able to fly from Portland (OR) to say Burbank, in the mornings, is a treat.

I think it depends on which airport to which airport. From my city to Orlando, the best deals are definitely early morning and late evening nonstops, and most days have those flights available. But for our upcoming trip to Disneyland, there are no early morning nonstop flights between my city and any L.A.-area airport. So I shared your frustration when planning for that route, but flights between my city and Orlando tend to offer better deals and a wider range of nonstop flight times, even though Orlando & L.A. are about the same distance away from us.

I fly from BUF to MCO and there are often flights departing BUF very early in the morning.....5:45am, 6:30am. The late evening flights have disappeared at the moment but over the last few years we have been flying out after 7pm regularly. I have really loved that because we have been able to travel after work and get to our destination sooner.

Flying back to BUF from MCO there are often several late night options....8pm, 9pm, 10pm. We have been taking advantage of those flights to gain a full day without having to pay an additional night at the hotel.

It's a general ad, not tailored to the user. The idea is for you to investigate the availability of such flights on your routes BEFORE you choose your travel time, not after.

As it happens, we routinely fly at those times, because we plan trips deliberately to take advantage of them in order to minimize needed hotel nights.

I have also been checking flights out of Grand Rapids (as well as Flint and Detroit for comparison purposes) and I have to say I'm very disappointed they no longer have nonstop flights or at least if they are, they are far and few between. We flew to Orlando in Oct 2015 nonstop, what happened since then?

Every time they sell a seat the price of the rest of the seats goes up. You must book early

I live in Grand Rapids and would prefer to fly out of there for my DW trip next month but they have no nonstop flights (seems they only do nonstop from late Nov-late June). Thankfully, my parents live about 5 miles from MDW so we are flying SW out of there.

It worked out well for me - I got a 6:05 am departure - $98, nonstop, and I'll arrive in Orlando at 9 am with the whole day ahead of me ....
then returning I got a 10 pm flight, also nonstop, also $98 - giving me the whole day to play before I have to go home.

We used to fly SWA out of GRR or FNT regularly for our May trips (October was always less pricey on Delta). The flights were all nonstops that left early a.m. (prior to 7:00), had late day returns and very reasonably priced compared to Delta and the other major carriers. Sadly, we haven't been able to do so for the past couple of years since there are no nonstops and, more importantly, the price is much higher than Delta out of DTW which is nonstop. @jenushkask8s--there are no nonstops in May either. :sad2: Sure do miss those small airports.
