Southwest sales-what happened?

Just an FYI: Jetblue's website is now showing the prices with taxes already included. So the first price you're seeing is actually your final price, too. I am keeping my eye on JB prices for May, still trying to talk my DH into a trip. While the prices listed on the "pick your flight" page seem higher today, my final price is exactly the same as it was yesterday.

I know there is a new rule that the airlines need to show prices with all taxes & fees up front, I didn't realize it was starting this soon.

Ohhhh good to know . . .I didn't realize that! I prefer JB over SW, but JB isn't offering the early non-stops or late non-stops out of BDL or MCO to BDL. So I've been monitoring SW mostly. Told DH we weren't going to WDW at all this year, but I'm feeling the itch now and our AP's expire in August . . .:goodvibes

Just noticed this morning that all SW flights jumped higher today, but it's because all the taxes are now included. It makes it look worse, but in reality it's a more accurate price.

Glad to hear on the tax included newsflash! Thanks for the info.

Our ideal SW still went up slightly and since DH needs to be certain of his vacation request before I actually book a non-refundable AirTran flight, I still am in a holding pattern. I'm a real planner, so I would feel so much more comfortable having flights settled!

Not sure if most people know, but Southwest had a 4 day weekend...Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday sale...that ended last night. I rebooked a ABQ-SAN trip from $141 two weekends ago to $90 each way for March over the weekend. The usual Tuesday through Thursday sale starts today.

Unfortunately our choice didn't go on sale...I would have booked if the flights had been reduced. I would have felt comfortable booking with SW because we could change flights if we needed to.

So glad we have a forum here to educate each other...love the DIS!

I just checked our flights for late August. I booked on Sunday and got 89 down to Orlando and 134 home (did not realize taxes were included so that was an added bonus!). Anyway, our flights have gone to 146.00 EACH WAY! So glad I booked during that weekend sale. :dance3:

Even factoring in the added taxes, my April flights have really gone up since I booked  I check multiple times a day to look for lower fares but they don't seem to be coming any more

We always book with SW because it is convenient, generally cheaper (and MUCH cheaper to fly from the states as opposed to Canada), and the free bags and no cancellation fees. Those perks I'm all for, and generally the layovers (if any) aren't bad.

I waited and waited for flights to go down this year and they didn't. Three hours after I booked all my flights went up $50 to $100! They haven't gone down (when I've checked, which is daily).

We're paying about $320 each RT; last year for the same time it was $210. Both are nonstop, which is nice, and at pretty good times. Is there any rhyme or reason to when I might be able to score a better price? They are exceedingly higher, now.

Same here. DW and I are going to DL the last week of August. Price jumped from our home airport to LAX from $131 yesterday and Sunday, to $142 this morning. They're now the same price as United. Only reason I would still fly SW is because of the no bag fees. We would each need to check a bag for a week long stay. If not for that reason, I would probably book the United flight.

Where I thought my flights had gone up, actually stayed the same. Anyone else get the email from SWA? Seems they now have to disclose the prices including all the fees and taxes right away. It's not just like that for SWA, but for all airlines. Price you see is the price you pay. So glad to realize my flight prices haven't gone up. :cool1: Now here's hoping they come down.

This statement is from the email I got from SWA:
When you visit southwest.com®, the fares displayed will now include all government excise tax, government segment fees, September 11th security fees, and airport passenger facility charges. It is important to note that fares have not increased, but that the initial fare display now includes all government-imposed taxes and fees. Customers have always paid these taxes and fees; however, previously these taxes and fees were added to the fare at time of purchase.

Our flights on SWA are ridiculous.

$160 per person one way.

I won't pay that. We are hoping they will drop but if not we'll be driving to Port Canaveral for our cruise in April. Its not anywhere near our spring breaks here so I'm not sure what the deal is.

In November DH and I got flights to MCO on SWA for $89 per person one way.
Almost double now. :sad2:

The other airlines that fly out of PIT are just as bad and aren't even nonstop.

Our flights out of New Orleans area for April were $313.60. We paid it because SW is the only nonstop to Orlando. Ever since Katrina in 2005, we have had almost no good deals from Southwest. It's pretty disheartening but we love Disney and hate to drive.

I'm running into the same problem. I think is has to do with the SW - AT merger. They were competitors, now they are the same company. There is no incentive for either to lower the price. I believe this is only going to get worse in the small to mid size markets. I used to get $150 RT to PIT or BUF or ROC, now I'm lucky to find $150 one way. Very sad.

The SWA flights from the middle of the country are just as bad! Almost no sales to Orlando, when you do get a sale they are extremely limited as to days you can fly. Also, the seats are really limited on the sales. I was trying to get tickets for 19 of us going to/from Orlando in May. Everytime I would hit a sale it would only let me get 2-3 seats before the price jumped back up. NORMAL price is about $175-$195 EACH WAY! The dings to Orlando are non-existent! I'm bummed because it sure limits my trips to my favorite place.

I bought my June airfare the day it was released. I have checked at least twice a week since then....hasn't gone down once yet. I'll keep checking, but hold out little hope. I did get good (for today) prices though...$237 RT including taxes.

On another note, I really like the new advertising of full prices.

It depends on the dates. I used points from the SW credit card for flights 4/28 to 5/4. Our flight down on 4/28 is $149 (first flight of the day), I think there were some $95 flights later in the day. Our return on 5/4 is $95 (last flight). I got these in December, probably more now.

I booked our flights last week and it was the lowst I have seen - I think it was actually a 1 day deal since I check every other day and it had not been that low in months. Got them for $289 each r/t taxes incl. Now I have to get DH a tix for a different MCO trip in May and prices are over $200 each way

We are flying down on 4/28 as well but out of islip, LI....in Dec right before Christmas I found an 89 fare on the first flight out....and 89 back on 5/6 for an afternoon flight.....I consider myself very lucky that I found those fares
