Sometimes when i have cancelled a southwest reservation it will say i can request a refund of funds. Other times it just says i can get a credit to be used in the future.

I always buy the internet special , the third collumn of the cheapest airfare.

Anyone know why or when you can get a credit to your credit card and others times not?

Anyone know how long it takes to show up on your credit card?
Thanks

Southwest will issue a refund within 24 hours. They will issue a credit good for one year from the date of original booking (travel funds) at any time.

it said it would issue me a refund even though i was using money from a previous flight i had to cancel. Does that mean they won't credit my credit card, and are just going to give me back the travel funds?

I'm just trying to figure out because i want to rebook a different flight.

THanks

They have always given me a refund back to my credit card, if the new flight is exactly the same as the more expensive one. For instance, same day, same time same category.
They are under no obligation to do this for the 'cheap' flights...it's just something they have done in the past. In fact they don't even have to give us credit. I just luv them!

oh i definitely think southwest is great. I'm trying to figure out if i have to spend the $50 to extend the credit, it is short by like 3 weeks of my trip, or if they are going to credit the money back to my credit card.

I don't want to be out the couple hundred that was on the credit because I thought they were crediting my credit card. Go ahead and buy with my credit card, and then later find out they didn't refund the money. YKWIM

I don't know the answer to your question about why their website says what it says. But, I had $44 in credits that I called and asked to be refunded to my credit card as soon as I got the credits from a trip we took last August. I was told no. Back in 05, they did give me the credit. Then, my explanation was I lived 3 1/2 hours away from the airport and may not get the opportunity to travel again within the year. In 05, it worked. In 08, it didn't. Then, we planned a trip that was about 3 weeks outside of the timeline. SWA would not extend without the $50 fee, so I would basically lose my credit. Instead of letting SWA keep the $, I donated it to a fellow dis'er who was able to use it.
