Sorry guys, I know I've seen this question answered before but I usually fly Airtran, so I didn't pay attention to the answer.

I booked air travel with Southwest last night and this morning the prices have gone down slightly. How do I rebook and receive the credit?

Also, when I'm rebooking can I change to a different flight? The high-priced non-stop is now down to the same price as my flight with a layover.

Click on "Travel Tools" in the upper right hand corner and select "Change Reservation".

or

Click on "AIR" and select "Change Reservation".

As Zero stated, just go to southwest.com and on the right hand side you select "Change Flight." It will ask for the confirmation number and the first and last name of the 1st passenger in the booking if there are multiple tickets.

Once that's entered it will take you to another screen where you can select the flights you want to change and proceed onto making the changes.

**Note: if you make changes within 24hrs of your initial booking then they will refund your money to you, but if you do it outside of the 24hr period southwest gives you a credit of the difference for future travel.

Also starting Feb I believe is that the credits will have to be used for the person making the booking.

I'm within the 24 hour period so that sounds great! Thanks guys for responding so quickly! :yay:

Update: I will be seeing $32 credited back to my credit card. I see why so many like Southwest! Oh, and they caught their price reduction on the non-stop flight. Price was back up to last night's price. Oh well, on the trip home I don't mind a layover.

Yeah, I've always flown SW to MCO since they have non stop flights that are great.

What if you want the same flights? I can also save $35.00 per flight.:confused3

I would like to keep the same times . . . I would just like the reduced price.

Yeah, you can change the flight to the cheaper price if it's available when your going through the change process. Just select the flights you want to change and rebook for the 2 lower priced fairs.

Remember if your within 24hrs of your original booking you will get refunded the difference, after 24hrs they will give you the difference as credit for a future booking.

Thanks . . . I am still a little scared to do this. Is it not possible to cancel your flights and then the flights you want are not available? I do not know if it is worth $35.00 each to take the chance!?!

Going through the "Change Flight" procedure, you do not have to cancel anything. You just put in your confirmation number, dates, and when you get to the choose new flights section, you can change or not change to a different flight.

Never knew you could do this with Southwest. Just got a $9.00 credit -- last of the big spenders, I am. :rotfl:

Thanks for the tip!

We had already purchased flights from Buffalo to Orlando at $89.00 per person one way, for a total of $812. for 4 of us all in. The price is down to $69.00 each way, and if I used the $25.00 discount code, it went down to $56.50 each way per person..or a total of $572 all in for 4. We would have a credit of about $240.

Now...how would I go about doing this??? I read some of these forums, and found out about the flight change feature. So I could 'change' my flights, even though I would actually pick the same flights. This would get me the $69.00 cost, but not the additional $25.00 off. There is no where under the change feature to add the promo code.

So...I thought I'd call and ask what my options were, and the very helpful SW lady let me know that I could cancel, have my funds put into an 'electronic fund', and then rebook at the new price..starting basically from scratch. I asked how long it would take for those funds to re-appear so I could use them again, and that I was a little nervous to do that in case I cancelled my original flights, and then by the time I tried to rebook, the lower price would be gone.

Well...she said, ..."follow me"
.

She stayed on the line while I started the booking process as a new customer, with the lower fare and the promo code. She stayed with me all the way through the passenger names, etc, and waited until it asked me how I wanted to pay. She then said, 'give me a second,,okay...go ahead and use your electronic funds'. It all worked!!! She waited until my new flights were all squared up, then cancelled my old one just seconds before I 'paid' for my new ones.

She was VERY,VERY helpful!!!

If this is what SW is all about...I will book with them next time I fly!!! (and that's not just because I have a $240. credit with them...lol

Just thought I'd share this information, in case there is someone else in a similar situation.

a bit of confusion, did they maintain your 25$ off promo from your first booking, or did you just apply a promo code for your new booking

my thinking it is the later situation, but if it was not others would be interested in "maintaining" codes and getting new reduced prices

also be aware

they are changing the rules with respect to CREDITS, as of February next year you can only book future flights with CREDITS for the "original" person ( do not know if it is for whole confirmation or not ) thus, you would not be able to "sale" or "give" the credits to another person

I did it!!! We now have a credit of $80.00. Thank you for your help . . . I love the DISboards!!:lovestruc

No...I did not have the $25.00 promo code for the original reservation, only for the 'rebook'.

I also heard about the changes to who can use the 'credit funds'.

I use the change reservation all the time. I've currently had my flight prices reduced 3 times since I purchased it a few months ago. I have a $125 credit for me and my 2DD's as I had already had $84 each way prices. However I was flying out of Boston Logan and it doesn't go direct so it was going to take a loong time to get to MCO and the MHT (NH) prices were really high. I now have the direct flight out of MHT and for cheaper so WHOO HOO! My DSM and DB have a $180 credit as they originally booked MHT at the higher prices.

I LOVE SW especially now that they no longer do the cattle call boarding. I much prefer the online check in where you save your spot in line. So, so much better.

Also from what I understand as of Jan/Feb 2011 the credits are to be used by the person/people who's names the tickets are in. So basically my DSM would have $80 available to her and DB would have $80.
