OK, I did this a few years ago but I have slept since then so..... I have my flights booked, the departure is a ding fare and my return is a regular internet fare. If I get a ding that is cheaper do I book the new flight first and then cancel the more expensive one? I can't imagine that I would let go of my 1st seats before I know I have the new ones. I also have to rebook both legs correct?

Then I call customer service and play their little "will they" or "won't they" credit versus refund game.

I just want to be sure that if I get a better rate I don't mess something up.

If you booked One Way flights then you only have to cancel the flight that you are looking for a lower fare. If its round trip then yes both flights would be cancelled.

This is one of the reasons i always book flights only One Way, not round trip, For me it seems so much easer to fing a lower rate for one leg of a trip then for both legs.

I open two windows, in one i go thru the process of booking the cheaper flight to make sure there is still seats available if there are before pressing the purchase button I cancel my orginal flight and then book the new flight. On occassion the funds from the original flight are available for use immediately and may be used towards purchasing the new flight.

Credits from a cancelled flight are valid for up to two years, just make sure you keep the confirmation number and the purchasers name filed for easy access when you book your next flights.

I had just booked $59 each way RT Manchester to Chicago, then a ding came up tonight for $39 on the outbound leg -- trouble is that the lowest fare on the return is now $150! I would have ended up spending more if I had canceled the RT (which you cannot just cancel one leg of) to book the ding...I'm glad I checked first to see whether the fare had changed on the return :sad2:

I should start booking one way fares but I have heard they are not as good as fares that pop up when you book RT.

I usually check both prices RT and One Way and I have not seen a difference in the totals and yesterday i just booked my 7th trip with southwest in a 12 month span.

Most trips have been to florida but we did manage to fit in a few trips to Vegas and one to arizona

unless they have changed this with their new roll out of boarding procdures, the ticketless credits expire one year from the date you first made your booking....

eg booking august 15, 2007....cancel and get ticketless credit....use some on a new flight, any left over funds will have to be used by august 15 2008 ( and this date is attached to the new booking even though it is september 25 2007 if you cancel )
