On my trip going, I will have no problem checking in 24 hours prior. For the return trip, despite any alarms I may set or whatever, there's a chance I'll miss the time when my window opens.

My question is this... Can you get the 'earlybird checking' when you're LESS than 24 hours from your checkin time. For example, I know as of a few months ago, SW reserved A1 - A20 or so for frequent flyer folks. Do they do something similar for early checkin, so people who checkin late may be able to pay the extra cash and bump ahead in line?

Figured if anyone knew the answer - it would be posted on here! ;)

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. If you are concerned with not being able to be on the computer, checking in, right at the 24 hr mark, then I would recommend paying the extra $10 pp to have SW do it for you.
Those numbers A1-15, usually go to those who have paid the fully refundable fares, business travelers who are paying a higher fare, and those frequent fliers. But, you have to have already paid your EBCI fee...you can't pay it when you are checking in, in the hopes of getting a better boarding pass number.

You answered my question. I actually answered it myself today on my departure check-in.

The last time I flew SW (only about 4 or 5 months ago), if you tried to check-in early, you got an error that gave you the time stamp. I tried to check in about 5 min early today and instead of an error, it let you print out a security document that said proceed to the gate to check in. I was confused, so I tried to do the early bird (it said I wasn't allowed), then about 3 whole minutes after my check-in window opened, I tried again to do a normal check-in and it gave me boarding passes (A46 - 49).

Bottom line - I don't like they changed their stupid check-in screens. It screwed me up. Luckily, we should still not have much of a problem sitting together.
