Southwest Prices This Year To Disney

In the past I was able to get prices of around 80 one way, that was a few years ago. Coming from Providence, we usually don't get the sales other states get.
A new airline is trying to come into Providence that will offer direct flights with lower prices, so hopefully we will finally have some type of competition that will help lower fares.

ETA: my youngest son might be playing in a baseball tournament in Florida at the end of June. The cheapest I can find is 250. rt each person. That is crazy.

I would buy them now and then get a credit if they go down. We are going on a cruise Dec. 1 so I booked JetBlue the day they opened. They were high, but those same tickets are $454 more now. I have never paid as much as I did this year.

We have always preferred SW from St. Louis to MCO. Have gotten great deals over the years, but my DD13 and I are going down in July when the boys are gone on a Boy Scout high adventure trip to Philmont, NM.

SW was at $282 r/t.

I was able to book Frontier Airlines out of Bloomington, IL (a new market for them) for $211/person. Not great, but $70/pp and parking is free at BMI. I also got a 10% discount promo code from them so I upgraded myself to the next booking category which gives us 2 free bags each way.

BMI is also an easier drive for us, and the times were better than the cheaper flights on SW, and they are non-stop flights.

I'll let you know how we like them.

I love flying Frontier. I don't mind Southwest at all but Frontier does have designated seats and individual TV's. We flew from SLC ---> MCO and it was a great flight.

I've noticed that the prices have been higher this year. Normally, I pay about $150 each way. This year, it's been more in the low $200 range. Could be that we chose Friday as the day to fly to WDW..

I am having the same problem/debate. We fly out of ME usually, and are considering driving down to Boston to cut cost, but the flights in Aug are still sky high! Even out of BOS. So...:confused3 Not sure what to do. I am waiting, with the hope that they will go down. We still have a little over 3 months. Good luck, hope it works out for both of us.

We are from Maine also last year the 4 of us flew for 650.00. Thus year it is 1076.00 both SW out of Manchester. I would prefer the portland jet port but the layover were crazy and the prices.

I'd book quickly. Last week I booked my August flights out of MHT (Manchester NH where we can get nonstops to MCO; it's an hour north of Boston). I've been checking every day (a couple times per day actually) and today I was shocked when my round trip price was $149 higher ($99 MHT-MCO, $50 MCO-MHT) than not only when I purchased last week but from yesterday. My first choice of return dates has been sold out of Wanna Get Away fares for over a month. The flights are filling up. I wouldn't wait for fares to drop. I don't think they will. Maybe some of the flights that are still listed as $140 will go down but the one I mentioned that went up $99 was $140 yesterday and overnight went up to $239. With 5 of us flying, I'm SO glad I booked.

I would buy now. I watched prices for SW go up leading up to our trip last month.

We paid about $150 more per person this year to fly than last spring break.

I'm waiting.......

Southwest always has DINGS from Chicago to Orlando for around $99.

There were threads last year when the gas prices were high and people saying airfare won't go down, book now, etc.

We ended up getting airfare from Chicago to Orlando for $175 roundtrip in December.

I won't pay $300+ roundtrip when the last 5 years I've paid under $200. I think I'll get $99 each way if I wait for a DING. DINGS usually come out 1-2 months before your travel date.

Keep checking daily. I remember last year I booked and it was $69 one day and jumped to $99 the next day.

Fuel prices are rising at an alarming rate and I don't foresee them coming down. If anything, the price of airfare is going to continue to rise. I think that the days of >$100 one-way fares is going to be a thing of the past very soon.

If your dates are set in stone and you know that you will be flying Southwest again within a year of your ticket purchase, then go ahead and buy them now. The great thing about Southwest is that they don't charge you to change your ticket if their price goes down or you want to change dates/times. If it's a Wanna Get Away fare, you don't get a refund but you do get a credit that can be used within a year of ticket purchase.

As an alternative to spending all that $$$, you might want to look into the SWA credit card that Chase is offering. There is a thread about it buried somewhere on here. They are giving 50K in Rapid Reward points when you get the premier card. That would be the equivalent of $833 in Wanna Get Away fares. You would have to pay an annual fee of $99 but for what you get back in the bonus, that's not a bad trade off.

We got the SW Visa card with this promo. We usually fly out of Minneapolis or Des Moines, which are not great with SW deals.

We are flying to DL in November. The SW fares to LAX are over 10,000 FF miles each way per person. We have 5 people going. With the FF miles used it would still cost us $1,200 to get to DL.

I looked for flights out of Kansas City (its about 2 hours more drive time then MSP) and there one way flights are about 5,300 to 5,500 FF miles each way. So we will have enough FF miles for everyones RT tickets. It will cost us an extra tank of gas only. We usually do a park and fly regardless of where we fly from.

It seems that flights are getting very expensive, so we find that we have to get a little more creative with our plans.

I will gladly drive the extra 2 hours on each end of the trip to save about $1,200.

We're having the same issue flying out of BWI for our trip the end of June. I've never paid more than $100 each way for air fare and right now it is at $150. I was able to get a deal about 6 weeks before I took DS16 to WDW at the end of January and was able to grab tix for $92 each way. If fares don't come down, DH says we're driving. Hard to believe that 4 yrs ago I had DINGS for $34 each way and that in 2008 we paid $612 for the 4 of us. Those days are over.

I keep checking the SW site many times each day to assess for price drops but there is nothing. :sad1:

I saw the other day that my coke rewards has $20 southwest credits available now. If you do my coke rewards, or if you buy coke and can start collecting that night help.

Thanks!!! This is still working ... I just put in a bunch of bottle caps and got $20 off. Bummer because I booked earlier this week for our June trip, but I'm sure I can use it before the deadline of 11/15.

I looked for months between Airtran and SW. In January flights started at about $140, then went up to $160-170 by March. I finally lucked into a deal for a non stop flight from Indy to Orlando and back for $110 each way on Airtran for the most perfect times. I snagged those flights and picked my seats! That evening, they went right back up to $170. Keep trying 3 or 4 times a day, different times a day. You never know what will open up. Good Luck.

Funny because this summer we are driving to Denver (live in Kansas City) to save over $200 per ticket for a family of five. Yeah thats $1000+ to drive 8 hrs to save over one thousand dollars. Crazy huh? We're adding a day to see Colorado Springs/Pike's Peak and cross something off our bucket list as well.

Isn't it crazy how things work out?

I have some family that lives in Liberty and my uncle works at the airport for the FAA. I thought about seeing if we could stay at there place and he would run us to the airport to save a little more money, but I have for the 5 of us to overtake there house.

Even smaller world. I work in the Liberty area. Good luck on staying with the family. Hope you all have a good trip! We're a family of five too! Makes it tough on the wallet when your flying and buying park hoppers to Disneyland/World.

Our tickets were $181 each way this year flying out of Albuquerque-- cheapest I could find! We usually pay $99 each way. I had one of the one way fares at $159 but had to change the day and the prices had gone up from to between $181 and over $300 for Gotta Get Away fares! Paying almost double is a HUGE price increase.

I got the SW visa card and used points to book 2 of the flights, but even with that, we are paying the same price for 2 tickets that we usually pay for 4 tickets!

Does anyone know if you can use more than one $20 reward per flight?
