Southwest Outrageous Ticket Prices

Damn nothing went down for me. I have 4 airports in 4 different states that I can fly out of on two different days, and I can't get a decent fare to save my life.

A tip I saw on another thread too is to try pricing it with Qty 1 tix first.....this happened yesterday. After I had already adjusted my tix I was playing around and put in qty 3 and the outbound flight was higher, but when I put qty 1, it was the lower price.

I think $99 is now the best we will see from BUF but $109/$119 seems to be more common as a low fare. Those lower prices seem to be popping up mid week. Often I'm seeing fares around $159-$200+ one way.

I got $99 airfare both way on my upcoming trip in January. And that was even going to disney on a Sunday. You can't beat Southwest out of Buffalo.

Woohoo! Just change our flights to one day earlier where the flights dropped a bunch and saved $332!! :)

the flight I wanted dropped slightly so I booked it. Still more than I've ever paid though ($200 one way.......has been $249). Now I'm just hoping it drops more, then I can get a credit and use it towards our flight home.

My flights dropped again so I have a credit of 364.00 now. Problem is they expire in July and we won't be flying again until the following Feb. So all those credits are wasted. Also on the way home I can change from a noon flight to 8:30 am and gain another credit of 164 but I am not sure that is worth getting up that early especially if the credits I acquired I won't be able to use :(

Wow!!! that's a hefty credit!! Shame it will need to go to waste...maybe you can arrange a quick weekend getaway or something?? I booked for my DD's friend (who is now coming with us) yesterday for $368 for the same flights I got mine ultimately for $318. Looked today and they were back up to $458! The fluctuation is just crazy!! Hoping to use our credits towards a summer Vero Beach trip (even if only for a few days). Hopefully you will find a way to use yours :)

Their policy for using credits is so crappy. I wish they would let us use the credit to buy a SW gift card or something. Im sure the majority of credits never get used.

Their policy is WAY better than any other airline. The fact that they let you change at all is a miracle.

If you wait until AFTER the funds expire, you can call and get them extended for 6 months. They will take $100 off of each credit that you have. Pro tip: If you have 2 diff credits (diff conf numbers). Book a dummy flight and combine them BOTH into one flight. Then cancel that flight. You will now only have to pay one $100 charge.

ETA: You can wait until 6 months AFTER they expire to call. You then extend it for 6 months from the date of your request. If you do that, you will be able to cover your Feb 2017 flight.

I agree. But for many people (like me) who don't normally travel more than once or twice a year, it usually goes to waste. I see now where you said they will extend it after it expires which helps. Although I personally never have credits more than $100 though so once they take their $100 fee.....

ETA: I'm bitter b/c I was excited thinking I could use my $50 credit from this past April on my upcoming February flight.....less than a year away! I didn't realize they start the clock from when you originally booked the flight, which was last November, so....no credit for me. :(

So yesterday I found a better fare online but when I went to book it told me I had to call. I called, got a call back time and by the time the agent called back the fare was gone.

Has anyone ever had luck in a similar situation getting SW to honor the lower fare? It's $40 times 4 people so it's a BIG credit for us. I sent a polite email and I understand that there's a high chance that the answer is no, but I figured I'd see if anyone had ever gotten this done. (Even if it's the airplane version of pixie dust.) :)

Interestingly, SW (or any other airline, actually) out of Orange County CA is wayyyy more expensive than LAX. I looked at every single carrier out of OC for the dates we'll be there Jan 30-Feb7, and each one would have been over 1000 roundtrip for 2. We ended up on a flight out of LAX on Southwest for 107 apiece, and returning on Delta for 202 apiece (SW was 333 apiece for a flight that left around 5pm - we are now leaving at 730pmish I think, so more time in the parks). Not bad at all! Unfortunately it is out of LAX though, so a longer drive home for us..
