Southwest or AirTran do you have a preference?

Some more stats from the DOT website

Mishandled bags (higher rank means less chance of losing bag)
SWA - 4
Airtran - 12

Ontime (for the last 12 months)
SWA - 5
Airtran - 14

Customer satisfaction
SWA - 1
Airtran - 10

So, if I want to arrive ontime, with my luggage and with a smile on my face, I generally take SWA.
I will fly whoever is more convenient, and out of Chicago that is usually SWA, but I will use Airtran when I have to (such as going to Atlanta).

As long as I get to Orlando eventually, it is all good.

Had a friend that traveled from CAK to MCO on Saturday (direct flight) and AirTran managed to lose his checked luggage. He was not the ONLY one on that flight...apparently about 10 others lost luggage. Frustrating part was the number he called to check on the lost luggage was nothing more than a voice recording. He arrived at MCO at 3:30 pm. His luggage arrived at 11:30 p.m.

I flew SWA today.. MY luggage beat me to the baggage claim at DTW today!

Still lovin SWA!

We have never had a problem with SW...just wish they would release schedules a little earlier.

SWA all the way! Love booking a flight, then getting a credit if the price goes down. As for cattle calls - with airlines that have assigned seats, there is always a cattle call. Once the row number is called, everyone rushed to the gate (yes, even those whose row wasn't called yet)

With SWA, if I have my A boarding pass (which I always do), I can actually sit down in my seat until most of the A's have boarded, and then get in line. I'll still get the seat of my choosing. No cattle call :thumbsup2

I have traveled on both airlines, so i can judge.

(But i must admit, being able upgrade to business class on Airtran for $35-50 was sweet)

You may not like SW, but

On time stats for June from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (Your tax dollars at work)

AirTran On Time 71.53% of the time
Southwest On Time 75.22% of the time.

Think SW has AirTran on that stat hands down.

I don't care what the statistics say. I've flown SW three times. Two times they lost our luggage and one time they were 4 hours late. They never found one of our suitcases! Still floating out there in SW hell. I have flown probably 20 times in Airtran. All on time and never lost luggage. I'll stick with Airtran. :thumbsup2
