Southwest on-line check in

i just did on-line check in for tomorrow’s flight!!!! The second my clock hit the 24 hour mark I hit submit. And I got B 35 position. And then second after that I checked my children in and they got 57 and 55. How can that be?

You got B35 because a lot of people paid for earlybird and they got all the A and lower B numbers.
There are 20 people between you and your children because almost everybody on the flight was checkin in at the same exact time as you were.

Yes, the Only ya to avoid it.. tho no guarantee is to do EB
if your children are under 6.. I think that’s the number when I flew the other day,,,
You may board after all the wheelchairs, business A’s def before B’s.
May be a busy full flight.. if u have carry on, and concerns about seating together , next time do EB
Safe travels!!

Yes this. But be aware....sometimes they skip family boarding if there are ton of families with small children. I've had it happen a few times on the flight from Hartford to MCO.

I have only ever flown to Orlando (MCO) or San Francisco (SFO). Perhaps its the hub I start at (BNA - Nashville). I have never had more than a B17 in my life when not using EBCI. I just always check in at the 24 hour mark though. Right on it.

The very first time I ever bought EBCI, (LAX-midway), we had b40s.

I always buy early boarding but this flight I decided not too. Me, and my sons 2 year old and also my 15 year old daughter are flying. So with the 2 year old she can family board between A and B.. Do we have to choose between me and my daughter who boards with her and the other is gotta wait for their number to come up?

I believe it depends on the mood of the gate person when you fly. I have heard people say they let their whole family of 6 board with a baby/toddler at the same time and others say that only one party member can board with the little one.

Yep. I’ve seen it done both ways.

Arrived this past Saturday - made reservations when the dates became available and purchased EBCI for 4 passengers. Now my situation is a little different in that all the passes were made with points and one with companion pass. DH who is the account holder received A22. Me (companion pass) and other 2 were made on points received B3,4, and 5. Seems Southwest has changed up how they distribute the boarding passes if you use reward points. It was like the gave him the EB correctly but since we used points for the free flight we were automatically put at the begining of the Bs so people who paid for there fare and EBIC got in. I don't really care much since my kid and her friend are 20 yrs olds but he got row 7 and they found two seats together in row 21. Now this was a Saturday which I consider a big travel day, we depart this thursday so I expect things to be a little different. We will see!

I always use points. Well not always just our last 5 or 6 trips to Florida. Ha ha

I do believe this is true. I initially wasn't going on a cruise this Feb. with family out of Canaveral, so when I purchased the same flight I was an anytime fare rather than wanna get away. Even though everyone purchased EBCI my boarding position was higher even though I purchased later.

Another factor is we have seen higher numbers on some Orlando flights recently as it has been more and more the larger 800 plane (which we love-more legroom) than the 700.

Does your DH have A-List or A-List Preferred status? If so, he was assigned a boarding position before any EBCI passenger. At 36 hours out, SW's system assigns boarding positions to: Business Select (in A1-A15), and then starting at A16: A-List Preferred, then A-List, then passengers with an Anytime fare ticket plus EBCI, and finally, passengers with a Wanna Get Away fare plus EBCI. If there were any connecting passengers with EBCI on your flight, they received their boarding passes earlier in the day than you and would be ahead of the non-Business Select passengers on your flight. If you had flown on a weekday, there could have been enough A-Listers and Anytime fare passengers with EBCI on your flight, pushing you back into the B group. But given it was a Saturday, I'm surprised you ended up that far behind your DH.

Update on return flight today (Thursday): DH again got A22 (weird), Me A44, daughters friend A45 and daughter got - B36?? DH, DD and friend were on points and mine was companion pass. Again all booked when dates came out and never changed. DH does not have A-list or Alist Preferred status. All our points are earned from the SW credit card, maybe that is also a factor. Doesn't matter told DH sit in the middle seat and put your backpack on the window seat til I get there. I will give DD my A44 to be with her friend and I will take B36. I'm just happy to have a practically free flight, still love SWA.

This is SUPER interesting to hear!! We have our SW flights to WDW on June 8 and then home on June 14th - we booked them free using points for me and our 2 teenagers and then DH is my free companion pass. I bought EBCI for all 4 flights when we booked the flights back in December. We've never gotten basically 4 free flights before so it will be interesting to see what our seats are. Our outbound flights to MCO leave at 6:15am so maybe no one else will be awake yet! :rotfl2:

We do online check right at the 24 hour mark, just in case, but we have never had to worry about it due to family boarding. Numbers can vary but we have always been lucky to board as a family of 4 due to having one child 6 or under with us.

I used to buy EB check in all the time, but no more. Now we upgrade my husband at the airport to an A 1-15 position. He needs the exit row, or bulkhead row for his long legs! He saves me a seat and I board with my regular number.

Please remember that even though he is saving you a seat and most likely a middle seat next to him that most people won't jump for this is no guarantee that your seat will be saved if someone else wants it. There is no "saving" of seats. Personally I don't care if someone does and honestly wouldn't argue with someone over it but don't want others to get this idea and safe a seat for 4 or 5 people.

Southwest doesn't have a policy for or against seat saving. It is simply open seating. It is true however that any seat no matter the number may be occupied by any passenger.

Yes and I know if I come on board with my party and one person was saving a bunch of seats and its the only place for my party to seat together I assure you I would be seating in those seats.

Oh NO... our flight leaving our house going TO Orlando leaves at 6:15am - our flight OUT of Orlando leaves Disney at 5:30pm....

I get almost a full day on the arrival day and over half a day on the departure day...

I was on a SW flight many years ago. It was right after SW started the new style of boarding, and I was in the A group, about A20 or so. I boarded, sat down in the third row, window. I watched as a large group boarded....about 8-10 people. They were obviously traveling together. They plopped down in pairs....window and aisle seats. Took 4 or 5 rows, all in the front. People boarded, looked at those empty seats...and were told 'Sorry, this seat is saved' and they would shrug and move on. Well, as the C group boarded, the flight attendant announced that it was going to be a pretty full flight, so if you see an empty seat, sit in it. Man, you never saw people scurry so fast! That family that had 'saved' all those middle seats were now trying to move those empty seats so they didn't have strangers sitting in the middle seats!! I know we all love having an empty middle seat next to us, but that just doesn't happen all that often now that they are flying fewer planes!! Imagine how thrilled some in the late C group were to find seats together, in the front of the plane!!!

Sadly, SW doesn't have a seat saving policy. I wish they did. It outs the onus on the passenger to settle the issue. Not always a good thing.
