Southwest Not As Bad As I Thought

Were flying Southwest from Midway next month...Do they have movies onboard?
Thanks :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

Nope, no movies (unless they are on the newer planes...we were on an older one). For frequent flyers, I strongly recommend buying one of the cheapie portable DVD players at a place like Wal-Mart. Ours has literally thousands of air miles on it, and it's still going strong.

DMRick, from the little that I could overhear, the argument was something about age. I didn't catch enough to be able to tell whether the duo was saying they should be able to preboard because one of them was a senior citizen or if it was something else. Might have been an overly strict gate agent, but it was hard to tell because all of the other pre-boarders were families with children who were very obviously under 4 so there were no other conflicts.

I am a far far suburban southsider who hates Midway. We do not drive to the airport and O'Hare is $5 more in a limo and 15 minutes quicker even though its further. I hate to fly and the takeoffs and landings at Midway are scary to me. I guess I am really particular because I have to know where my seat is and I make my reservations at least 6 months in advance in order to get "good seats". My husband use to travel for his job and I use to drive him and pick him up. At that time before they enlarged Midway it was really an easy place to get in and out of it. I understand that this is no longer true.

Midway is still somewhat easier than O'Hare, but not like it used to be. I avoid the whole mess by parking on the other side, by the Orange Line train entrance, in a parking lot that is so close I can walk rather than deal with shuttle buses.

I know what you mean about the short runways. On ATA, I often sat in the exit row across from the jump seats, and on the massive 757-300s the FAs taught me to look backwards while landing...you can actually see the plane fish tail as they brake it! It's not so apparent with smaller aircraft. And once we had to abort our landing at the last possible minute due to a sudden tail wind. I'm sure it's routine for the pilots, but it always gives me the willies.

I am a very paranoid flyer, and like you, I want to know where my seat is. That's why it's taking me a while to get used to Southwest, but for the price I just can't justify one of the O'Hare carriers (by the way, we're one town south of you!).
