I have watched SW almost daily (including Tuesdays) with no decrease in price from $145 for a December trip. I know I seen a $99 sale prior to knowing my exact booking dates. Does anyone know of a good timeline 7-8 weeks out? I don't want to get sold out and have to drive.

We have flown the last 2 years, and while airfare is higher than ever, I still think we will see a "holiday" sale in October. That seems to be the trend. I'm praying that it will be a good sale too - last year we got our tickets for $119 per person each way. Right now prices put us at $200 per person each way for our upcoming December trip and there's 4 of us!

I've never flown on Southwest before but probably will for our December trip. I see they have a "no change" fee if you change flights. But I haven't read what their policy is if you buy tickets and the price drops afterwards. Does SW give you a refund or credit for a price drop, or are you out of luck?

Thanks

I apologize for hijacking the thread, but I had a question for you. Why would you prefer to fly rather than drive from NOLA? It seems that it would be only 9 (or so) hours to drive and doing so would likely save a bunch of money on airfare.

Good luck with WN!

I always fly Southwest and you can book and make changes fairly easily online. If the price drops, you must edit your original ticket and effectively rebook your flight. They will then take the refund and hold it for future use. You don't get an actual refund for the lowest price fares. The "refund" will be tied to your original confirmation number, so hang onto your email they send you. I have changed by schedule several times over the last month or so to take advantage of discounts, etc. I went through each of my several confirmation numbers the other day and found a total of about $125 which I applied. I was able to get my airfare from OKC to MCO down to $240 round trip minus about $75 of the refunds. (I saved some for later.)

Hey Tink I'm in the same boat at you! We live in Baton Rouge, but wanted a direct flight to Orlando so we have to fly out of New Orleans. We went ahead and booked our flights because there was only one morning nonstop flight on the day we were leaving. We couldn't chance it booking up.

To the PP about driving vs. flying, we usually drive and break it up in two days. This will be our first time flying but it's 3 women and a child. We didn't want to drive a 12 hour drive to Disney. It will be a lot easier for us to fly especially since we can get the non stop flight.

Kallie724: You will really LOVE the direct flight!!! WE used to always drive, but started flying regularly in 2010.....now you couldn't pay me to drive it! We did fly out of Baton Rouge in June, but it was not a direct flight and it really adds so much airport time to your day. We gladly drive the 2 hours to Nola and fly out SW from there.
