Does anyone know when Southwest started limiting the number of RR seats available on flights? It used to be that as long as there was a seat on the flight, you could use a rapid rewards ticket. Now they are limiting the number per flight. Instead of coming home at 5 in the evening, I now have to leave MCO at 10:00 in the morning, or pay $605 for 3 people to fly home paying cash. Looks like another case of building brand loyalty, and then taking back.

Very old news

If you have an award that was issued under the old rules there are no capacity controls. If your ticket was issued after Feb 10, 2006 your award is subject to capacity controls but you were told that that when you were notified of your award.

I agree with you. Other airlines let you use your miles for destinations like Mexico and let you book a year in advance. No capacity controls offset that. According to SW people on flyertalk passengers using capacity controlled RR tickets ou can fly standby the same day without having to pay the fare difference. I don't think I'd chance that for a later flight but I might be willing to stand by for an earlier flight flying down.
