SWA is offering the 50K points for spending $2,000 in 3 months for new CC applicants

Thank you.. DH and I did this last year and each got 50,000 points. I accidentally applied for the Premier card last time for $99 yearly fee. So, I just applied again for the Regular Card ($69 yearly fee) and was approved instantly. We used last years for flights to Fort Lauderdale for our cruise in June for 4 of us. Still have about 40,000 points left from that. Hoping SW and Airtran finish their merger soon - looking to fly to Nassau next year to go to Atlantis.

American Airlines has a very similar deal 50,000 miles if you spend $3k in 3 months.

We took advantage of it. It does have an annual fee, but is waved the first year. And you get free checked luggage (which 1 flight would basically take care of the fee if you keep the card after 1 year.)

Do you have a link for the American Airlines offer?

What do the flights cost with respect to miles?

How many tickets will that 50,000 points get you?

I was able to use the 50,000 bonus miles for 4 round trip tickets from San Francisco to Orlando :thumbsup2

You can go to sw and put in your destination and days and then click the 30 day calendar, then you will find the box to check for points instead of $. For me spokane wash geg to mco is about $336 each way and worked out to be 16,000 points.

I have booked 2 r/t to MCO and 4 r/t to Nashville. with my 50K SO we were able to take 3 trips with our miles.

Total out of pocket would have been just over $1300.

Don't forget if you do online shopping sign into the RR shopping partners site and make your purchase through the RR site to earn more points. Plus pay for your purchase with our RR CC and earn even more point. We bought our snow blower this way and earned 1950 points

found it .. It looks like 12,500 per leg in Nov.. AA is not as good of a deal as SW.. Sticking with SW :cool1:

FYI - if anyone can get both a personal & business account and have the points deposited to the same RR account you get the Southwest companion pass. If you get 100K points in a year you get it. It's really great. The holder gets to pick a companion that will get a free ticket to fly with them. And you can get the free ticket whether you pay cash for your ticket or use RR points to pay for it.

SWA is the best deal for domestic travel:thumbsup2 I think there are other sites with lots of info on using the AA points to travel internationally...:thumbsup2
To a pp who has both cards..... and to all of you..... if you have 2 cc's.linked to your rapid rewards account, and you get 110,000 points in one calendar year, you qualify for the companion pass. This doubles your points,as a companion flies free with you for up to 2 years.
(2 SWA cc= 106,000 pts, then you spend to get the rest=110,000 pts=companion pass= double your rewards)
This has always worked in the past, and there are many blogs attesting to it,and also tips on how to do it- So if you already have the 2 cards in your pocket,it could be worth it to investigate:thumbsup2
the SWARapid Rewards website has the details also
anyone here wondering, at a minimum I think you can get 4 R/T tickets to lots of places for that one bonus round... more if you know how to look for sales......

Thanks OP. I've been considering a SW cc for awhile now. I think the $69 fee will definitely be worth it now.

Agree AA prices are way higher than SW. We opened southwest for 50k bonus point last year and got 3 rt flights for disney cruise. Then 3 rt flights for upcoming trip to Disney world. This southwest deal is awesome!!!

Has anyone applied for the SW card ($69 fee one) in both your name and DH to get 2 sets of 50,000 points? Do they allow you to do this? I know you would have to spend $4,000 in 3 months but I could pay on our July trip and my DH travels a lot for work so think we could do it. We are a family of 5 taking a trip in July and are planning on driving but it would be much faster to fly (2 hrs compared to 18hrs). We have flown as a family once. So with 2 sets of point that would pay for probably 4 tickets and just have to buy one. I know we would have the $138 in yearly fee. How long do you have to keep the card?

Thanks for any help.

Yes this is what I did, dh and I both opened one. It's a great deal and depending on where u are flying from I think you could get all 5 flights with points. I'd go for it
